Samsung Galaxy Y LogoIt is very unfortunate that some of the users are having issue with the last firmware release of Gingerbread 2.3.6. So, now to fix the SD Card issues, you need not install any new firmware for the same but you need to follow a simple tip so as to fix it.

Tip: Backup all the data of your SD card in your computer.

Procedure to Fix SD Card Issue on Samsung Galaxy Y Android Phone:

  • First up, you need to backup all you data which is there in the SD Card as the data stored in the SD Card will be lost.
  • So, once the backup is done, you need to format all the data in the “FAT 32” file system and then you need to insert the same in your phone.

So, in this way, the issues are successfully fixed the issue of the SD Card not detecting after applying this update. Please note that just in case if you have proceeded to format the card without taking the backup then, the data will be erased which cannot be recovered back.

  1. I don’t know how to reformat my SD card. I tried doing it through the phone. I went to Settings, SD card and phone storage. I clicked ‘Mount SD card’, and it says that my memory card is blank. I then clicked Format SD card. It then says that it is erasing everything from the SD card. This continues for about 10 minutes (even though there is nothing on my SD card to erase). After this the ‘erasing’ message goes away, but it has not solved the problem. Instead, my phone slows down and begins to hang, until I have to switch it off and then turn it on again.

This is very inconvenient, and I have been trying to solve the problem for some days.

I am now trying to do it through my PC. I have connected the phone with the USB cable., but I don’t know how to proceed from here.

  2. Formatting from the device worked, now I also can put the apps through Kies to my card. I use APK Manager.THANKS!

    1. Lucky enough, I din’t worked for me. I have to manually format it from PC via card reader.

  3. Hi!

I’ve updated my firmware and the phone works great!

    My software version is 2.3.6
    kernel ver: 2.6.35.7 official.totoro@androide#31
    (S5360XXLA2)

    This update solved the problem.

  4. Here is how to fix the issue:

    1) Samsung Galaxy Y Manual page 16

Formatting your memory card on a PC may cause
incompatibilities with your device. Format the memory card
    only on the device.
In Idle mode, select > Settings > SD card and phone
storage > Unmount SD card > OK > Format SD card >
Format SD card > Erase everything.

    2) Do not enable: a) Kies starts automatically 2) Kies displays SD card in Windows Explorer

The problem is not the phone. It is wrong formatting of the SD card (“When in doubt read the instructions” and issues with the very quirky Kies program.

    1. Copenhagenmail,

The solution you provided really works, mate. The formatting of M.Card in PC creates trouble. I did as u said, now everything is fine. Thanks a lot.

    1. File allocation Table… it doesn’t support very large capacity. you can format your sd card with PC. The default unit allocation size is 4096, change it to 2046. it works fine on my ddlc2.

    2. FAT 32 is a File System. It refers to how data is being written on your sd card,
Formatting is the process of preparing your card to be written. types of formatting includes standard and quick formatting.

  5. Hi!

I’ve got this phone, with the same problem.
    My software version is 2.3.6
    kernel ver: 2.6.35.7 official.totoro@androide#18

This is a big bug, I hope that samsung will fix this in a firmware update.
Sometimes I can’t turn on the screen because this bug freezes the phone :(

  6. I did, I also tried formatting the sd card in \FAT 32\, but like others mentioned already, this only solves the problem temporary. I even tried to put another sd card in my phone, which didn’t help either.. This is my second galaxy Y actually, because the first I returned to the store, thinking it was a hardware problem.

I’m not sure what about to do with my phone, weather return it or not, because it’s getting really annoying and the problem occurs every day with more frequency. In the last 3 hours the sd card was \extracted unexpectantly\ for four times already..

    1. plz update the latest firmware updates. i was also facing same with more then 8gb cards but now its working fine.

  7. This does not fix the problem permanently. It comes back after 2-3 days of use.
I think formatting the SD as well as Upgrading firmware is the way to fix this problem.

    1. Yes, fix workd only for 2-3 days after that same problm.
i did the formatting sd before and after upgrading but no use.
please suggest way to fix this. thanks
