As teased earlier, Gionee has today officially launched its flagship Gionee S8 and a high-end clamshell phone called as Gionee W909 in China. Earlier this month, both the Gionee S8 and W909 received the TENAA certifications that gave us the glimpse of the devices. Both the smartphones come with high-end specifications and will be targeted towards the premium segment customers in the market. The Gionee S8 smartphone was first unveiled at the MWC 2016 event in Barcelona and was also showcased at that mega event. The Gionee S8 is priced at 2,599 Yuan (approx $400 / Rs. 26,600) while the Gionee W909 costs 3,999 Yuan (approx $616 / Rs. 41,000).
Let’s talk about the smartphones in detail:
The Gionee S8 flaunts a 5.5-inch (1080×1920 pixels) full-HD Super AMOLED display that offers a pixel density of 401ppi with 2.5D curved glass and Corning Gorilla Glass 4 laid on top of it for protection. The smartphone also comes with 3D Touch that can sense three levels of force including touch, tap and press. Under the hood, the smartphone comes powered by 64-bit Helio P10 octa-core processor clocked at 2.0GHz clubbed with 4GB of RAM, 64GB of built-in storage and microSD card slot for further expansion of memory. The device supports dual sim dual standby and runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow based Amigo 3.2 UI out of the box.
On the photographic section, the device sports a 16MP rear camera with PDAF, laser autofocus, f/1.8 aperture, dual-tone LED flash and an 8MP selfie snapper for stunning selfie images. The smartphone comes with an all-metal unibody design and also includes a physical home button with an integrated fingerprint sensor enhanced security. It comes with connectivity options like 4G+, VoLTE, GPS/A-GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and USB Type-C port. The smartphone comes backed by a 3000mAh battery and also supports fast charging technology. The dimensions of the handset measure 154.3 x 74.9 x 7 mm weighs around 147 grams and comes with Gold color option.
The Gionee W909 features a 4.2-inch dual (1280×720 pixels) HD display and with 349ppi as pixel density. Under the hood, it comes equipped with MediaTek Helio P10 octa-core processor paired with Mali-T860 GPU and 4GB of RAM. It supports dual sim dual standby and runs on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box. It sports luxurious looks with all-metal body and leather back that offers excellent grip to hold the device. It has 64GB of inbuilt storage and also includes an externalSD card slot for further expansion of memory upto 128GB. It includes standard connectivity options like 4G-LTE, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, GPS/A-GPS and microUSB Type-C port.
On the camera front, the smartphone comes with a 16MP rear camera with PDAF; dual tone LED flash and a 5MP front-facing camera for video chats and crisp selfie images. The smartphone sports a fingerprint sensor placed on the back of the unit below the camera module for enhanced security. The Gionee W909 is the first clamshell phone to come with a fingerprint sensor. It packs a 2530mAh battery that is rated to deliver 30 hours of talk time and upto 408 hours of standby time. Its dimensions measure 124.1 x 62.8 x 16.5 mm and weighs around 207.7 grams.
