How To Update Samsung Galaxy S I9000 to stable Gingerbread XWJVB 2.3.3 Firmware
For all those who are eagerly waiting for the official Gingerbread release of 2.3.3, the time has come, so let’s check out on how you can install with the latest Gingerbread release. As of now Samsung is reportedly only pushing the Gingerbread 2.3.3 release foe Galaxy S GT I9000 only in the parts of Europe, but soon it will be released in other parts of the World. But unlike other leading websites which just believe in spreading the news, we take extra effort and ensures that you get the complete coverage on all the firmware releases for your Samsung Galaxy S. So, before we proceed for updating the Galaxy S GT I9000, the great news is that irrespective of country from where you have bought your Galaxy S GT I9000, you can update this firmware of Gingerbread 2.3.3.
Also, updating with this firmware won’t mean that your phone’s warranty will not be void and also most importantly if you have rooted your Galaxy S then too you can proceed and update this firmware. Since there are many users who update their phones for the first time, irrespective of your current Galaxy S firmware version like 2.1, 2.2 or 2.2.1 or 2.3.2 or even beta release of 2.3.3 XXJVK, you can comfortably update your phones with this firmware release.
Many of the users also would like to ask about the stability and credibility of this firmware update, but you will be happy to know that this is not any beta or the leak release but in fact this Gingerbread 2.3.3 version is a KIES release which has been just released for some of the European countries.

hi, I have Three Quedtion for you:-
1) according to u should I go for this fw to b install, or should I wait for the Officialy release for India.
2) Is this a stable version?
3) I have first installed your js7 fw that is 2.2.1, its working perfectly, now my question is, may I b able to upgrade it to Official fw which will b coming in india in next few days through Kies? If yes then HOW?
@prabhpreet 1. There is still no ETA of 2.3.3 for India and compared to Indian version, EU versions is quite stable, so go ahead and try the same,
2. Yes, its a stable version,
3. With the help of KIES you will be able to update it, but for that when the official 2.3.3 for India comes you need to first go back to DDJP6 2.2 Indian version and then you will get update via KIES, anyways we will guide you to update with the same via Odin!
will i lose my warranty if i go aheadwith this??
@shrinikketh no, warranty will be intact!
HI,
i flashed my phone with your firmware and till now everything works great.i notice that i have the same froyo keyboard, but i’m ok with it,otherwise the phone works just like in te description.no bugs till now and i will report them if they come my way.

what is the csc file, and what’s the difference between nee and xee?
@john its just that its nordic based, no significant changes!
thank you very much!

Neal i must upgrade my SGS froyo 2.2.1 to 2.3.2 gingerbread after that to this FW or i can directly do that?and 1 question ,you wrote we must root SGS before upgrading, but it need 2.3.2 gingerbread version, what i must do?
@javidan upgrade with the new firmware 2.3.3 which i posted few hours back!
Hi im unable to unzip the PDA file..is it normal or is the file corrupted??
@shrinikketh everything is perfect and tested, do let me know if there are any issues!
the PDA file isnt getting unzipped..is it supposed to or should i try re downloading the file
Thanks for the official update files. As i already had the beta/unofficial Gingerbread installed i couldn’t use kies to update, so this did the trick.
Like JoeC said, this seems to be quicker in many areas. I also found the other version to be a battery drainer so hopefully that has been sorted. Another top post as always. Thanks again.
hi Neal,
i am back to JS7 since the battery life in XXJVK was very bad… due have any update on the battery life on this version compared to the XXJVK version?
hey @suneesh have you cleared the cache and all?
@ Neal Cleared the cache a few times but still getting about only 6 hrs of battery life so switched back to 2.2.1… please let me know if u have something on the battery life for this version of 2.3.3
Just updated with the provided ROM. Can notice immediate speedier launch and browsing.
Hey just doing this for the first time and have a query. Does the firmware thing in the update zip package have the new bootloader with or is it the one without? Thanks and really appreciate what you guys and all the devs in the community do!
actually @Bryzar there are two ways of updating an SGS phone, 1. via Recovery mode (update.zip method) and 2. via Odin which is the safest, don’t go for update.zip method for Galaxy S. Go with the above mentioned safe version! Do, let us know if there are any problems!
Ah.. Sorry I wasnt clear at all. I meant its the first the phone will be updated so its still running the default Eclair firmware it initially came with and with obviously the old bootloaders, so I need to install the new ones with the Gingerbread update i’ll be doing because apparently there are a few glitches with Gingerbread if utilizing an old bootloader like graphic corruption and not being able to enter recovery mode etc. So I was wondering if your package contains the PDA file with or without the new bootloader and where I might in you awesome guide (which I inteand on using) fit that step in? Thanks for your response!
I posted this futher down the the page course I didnt realise i could reply to my own posts doi. “Oh also I noticed in a post above the csc file thing was mentioned as being of Nordic origin, correct? I was wondering if it possible to use an Australian (its apparently out here down under also) one or does it really not matter? Reason im asking is i’ve tried using KIES but have had no luck with it (user error, software, something im not sure really) originally updating my phone to Froyo with it and it doesnt come up with this either, im still running stock Eclair. Thanks again!”
I installed xxjvk from samfirmware.com, can I use the above steps to install this version?
from the naming convention xxjvk seems to be newer than xwjvb?
sure @usman, you can use the above process to upgrade!
I installed the ROM today, everything works fine except, my SIM card is not getting detected, i tried using other SIMs but they are not getting detected as well, i updated to this from Darky v9.5 stable.
any suggestions?
@Karthik try re installing the firmware again!
Can this update be applied to Samsung Galaxy S-LCD I9003???
@Shreyas No you can’t apply this to I9003
hey i did it and now phone is nt starting…….what to do helpppppppppppppppp……………………..
follow the procedure to install XXJVQ 2.3.4
Oh also I noticed in a post above the csc file thing was mentioned as being of Nordic origin, correct? i did the same as you said but my galaxy s enter an infinite reboot mode????? what is the problem ????????? please help me

Hi Neel
I need to root my phone. Can you help me?… The procedure described in http://androidadvices.com/how-to-root-galaxy-s-on-android-2-3-3-xxjvk-firmware/ works for this firmware?
Thanks.
No @Orlando it will not root your phone for XWJVB!
@Neal
Thanks for all the work man. I saw samfirmware.com has a single tar file. Since I’m already on JVK could I just run the tar file without CSC and Modem as previously on Froyo??
@EMKAS its recommended to flash with all the files as mentioned above!
After I opened Odin, the first box of “ID:COM” didn’t changed yellow. Then I can’t go on the upgrading. Would you help me?
@Cliff you will have to first open the Odin and then connect the phone via USB to the computer and after upto 1 minute, the ID:COM block will glow yellow!
Neal,
Somehow i managed to unzipped the file…but alas…struckd here!! ID:COM doesnt show Yellow…means it is not detecting
( Help please
Worked like a charm…..as always
Thanks Neal
my first android bought it on 15 april and now i get the gingerbread update.this is nice
i didn’t even feel the need to root it. thanks a lot for this guide because kies didn’t show me the update.
however my problem was after starting the update from Odin at some point there is a step called param.lfs and here it got stuck, nothing happened for about 25 minutes. although i was worried i’ve disconnected the phone and started again. This time the hole process took for me 2 minutes (literally).
So for other people who run in this problem don’t worry your phone it’s not bricked just sometimes Odin hangs. when updating there is a loading bar also on your phone in download mode. for me the 1st time it didn’t show
thanks again for this guide and keep up the good work
Thanks bro…i was stuck at d same problem…disconnected it twice…wrkd at d thrd time…dont knw how…:)
Thanks guys, it nearly gave me a heart attack when this happend to me…
It seems the way to avoid this, is change the order in which you do things:
- Start Odin,
- Prepare all the files (odin, phone, csc, pda)
- Start your phone in download mode
- THEN connect the phone via USB
- As soon as you see “added!”, press Start.
This seemed to work every time, doing it the other way around as the tutorial says, sometimes gave me the param.lfs-hang.

hey neal how are you,, just want to know how exactly you can back up your apps, specially the ones installed from the market place.??
Thanks.
Umer
@umer you can make use of Astro File manager or Gmail to backup all data!
Hi !
I’ve flashed the 2.3.3 update as given in the steps above. My phone is now running 2.3.3.
Everything seems to be working fine except the Camera app which keeps showing a black screen, and keeps hanging.
Can you please check at your end if the Camera is working fine after the update?
Thanks in advance !
hi @parampreet its absolutely fine at my end, have you tried clearing the cache and wipe option?
The issue got resolved automatically and the camera app is working fine now.
The phone works a lot more smoothly with this release than Froyo.
Thanks a lot for your help man, the instructions provided are very simple, straightforward and precise and I had the update flashed and working on my phone within minutes.
Assuming that Samsung is using the same crappy RFS filesystem as on the previous releases, a lag fix will really speed things up even further.
I’m looking forward to your instructions on rooting this update and applying lag fixes like Voodoo, OCLF etc.
hi.
I previously updated to 2.3.3 xxjvk.
Is there much difference between this version and xxjvk.
@Luke yes there are many changes ranging from Swype to better battery, better speed etc.
thanks for the reply,
Since updating my phone no longer opens https websites. If I wanted to go back to old firmware, do I just need to follow that procedure?
hey @luke you should be able to access all the sites, there must be some problem with the website! Just based on this its personally not advised to go back to older version of firmware!
I have a question: I installed the rom, but after the reset, I didn’t receive a language screen but a password confirmation??? what’s going wrong.. Don’t know the password..
@rvdeijk password is androidadvices.com
I have just tried this update and my Smsung GT has gone. It’s flaslight is on (on back), but there is no other sign of live on screen. Is there a way to recover from this disaster?
Thank you.
@can it takes very long time sometimes like more than 5 minutes to show up the home screen from “S” Logo!
@Can samsung GT 19000 should not have flash light on back. I think you tried into a different version
Yes, I sholuld be more specific. My device was a Galaxy Tab P1000. I have found this page by searching “rom update for Galaxy Tab”. Without noticing I9000, I tried to install ROM by directions above (at 02:30 A.M. in a sleepy condition
.) Because I have installed another ROM before without problems, I didn’t expect any problems.
I think ODIN should check the device and ROM compatibility, but it did not. I couldn’t recover and had to go service. Fortunately they installed latest official ROM (within warranty, though I have described how it happened). My device is OK now, and I’m waiting official 2.3 update impatiently.
Thank you for your interest.
@can sure we too will be looking forward for giving you support for 2.3
Hi Neal,
This is a terrific site and you guys do great work. Keep it up.
I used your help to update my i9000 to 2.3.3 XXJVK. I just did it last week. Now, do I need to update to 2.3.3 XWJVB ? Is 2.3.3 XWJVB better than 2.3.3 XXJVK and if yes, then in what way? Does 2.3.3 XWJVB get better quadrant scores compared to 2.3.3 XXJVK ? Look forward to your reply. Cheers Uday
@uday go ahead and update the phone with this version, you will love it for sure, better battery and better overall support etc.!
the process went smooth
thanks a ton for everything. just a question though – after this upgrade, i’m not able to view any indic fonts on my phone. is this due to the fact that this is a nordic specific update? also if i want to ‘downgrade’ to froyo, what is to be done? i guess the singe file on samfirm won’t work. thanks a bunch again!
@rohit thanks for the appreciation, looking forward for your support in future too!
@rohit thanks for the appreciation, looking forward for your support in future too!
@rohit thanks for the appreciation, looking forward for your support in future too!

Hey Neal,
I updated 2.3.2 previous gingerbread version from your website. Now, Whenever i connect to Keis, It says, this device can’t be upgrade with firmware.
My question is
1) If i upgrade this new released version, will my warranty be restored and in future will I be able to get update from Keis
2) If I need to update thru Keis with my 2.3.2 version , what is the process. Please explain
3) How exactly I can back up your apps, specially the ones installed from the market place.??
Regards,
Venu India
hey @Venu actually in India the official update has still not arrived and tht’s the reason on why you are not getting any update via KIES.! You can follow the above mentioned tutorial to update your phone with 2.3.3. To backup, there are links which are mentioned, follow them to backup the data.!
@Venu the update through KIES is expected very soon, once that comes we will surely update with the same!
Stuck at the Glowing S…
Nope, my bad. Reflashed and worked
@Lahi glad that problem is now solved!
Everything has gone OK until clicking on Start. My PIT, PDA, PHONE and CSC are all showing as per your image, but when clicked on start the process, as shown in the message box, has stopped at ” Leave CS..” – it’s been like that for 5 minutes now. What should I do?
@drizzle pull off the battery, restart the computer and re try the process.!
Here is the complete contents of the message box:

I get the same message, just restart your device in download mode again, unplug-plug your USB cable and start again
@JOSH Yes!
Thanks for this! Kies firmware update let me down (again).
Your detailed instructions worked perfectly, only the System Recovery reboot option didn’t work for me.
My phone is noticably faster!
Hi there,
Since the upgrade to this new firmware Gingerbread 2.3.3 it seems that the Portugese dictionnary has disappeared from XT9 and Swype. It’s very annoying, in the 2.3.2 it’s there.
Anybody knows if we can add a dictionnary?
Further to my earlier post I’d like to thank you for your advice. Pulling the battery from the phone and rebooting my computer worked! Now upgraded to Gingerbread XWJVB 2.3.3.
Thanks
I have samsung i5700 also, but after pressing volume down + call button + end button, I ddnt get any recovery mode, what should I do to come in recovery mode. I want to update it also to 2.3
@Prabhpreet i5700? i din get you, this update is for I9000!
I know its for i9000 and I have installed it, and its working perfectly, thanks for that man.
But I have also samsung i5700, and I read ur i5700 post also and want to update my i5700 also.
Hi Neil,
YOU MAKE THINGS SO SIMPLE AND EASY….YOU ARE A CHAMP !
I am from UK, I installed 2.3.3 beta before and had some problems, you previously advised me to go back to xxjpy 2.2.1 and I did it following the instruction and is working fine. I have following doubts eating me
1. Can you please tell me what is the difference between gingerbread XWJVB and official gingerbread from kies when it arrives?
2. When the official gingerbread for uk be released ? as I have seen the user guides on samsung website
3. Once the official gingerbread is released for UK how to get that one ? is it just connect and it will auto update ? or since I am on 2.2.1xxjpy from your files I can never again get original firmware for my phone?
PLEASE answer
thanks
hey @krish really thanks for the appreciation.
1. there are some performance changes like Swype is now working in the new version, better battery support, etc.
2. there is no exact ETA given by Samsung but we expect the same to arrive for UK by the end of April. Will only be able to comment about the difference after the arrival of update in UK.,
3. No, since you are not on the official factory version, you won’t be able to update auto. but we will surely help you update with manually once the update arrives!
HI Neil,
Many thanks for the clarity. Is there a way to get official factory 2.2.1?
Cheers !
@krish may i know from which region you have purchased your GALAXY S?
Hi Neil,
I am from India. Can you please forward official factory 2.2.1 for I9000?
Thanks

@oliver try re flashing the device!
Cheers once again Neal had a few hiccups. First time tried to flash ODIN said fail and wouldnt go into download mode straight away took a couple attempts but eventually got into download mode aqnd 2nd flash attempt was successfull.
Initial impressions seems to run much smoother wont know about battery until after a couple charges.
The only downside I noticed was that there doesnt seem to be Youtube widget even after downloading the latest version of youtube off the market.
For those about to flash firmware It did take longer to flash this time than it has fopr me in the past, sat at the reset screen for a long time few minutes and took about 10 min on Samsung boot screen.
So if seems like taking longer than it should don’t panic it does takes a while when booting for the first time.
Hey Neal, great guide. I hope i didn’t miss it up there but I wanted to ask if this ROOTS it as well. Or if there are good guides to rooting after the fact.
I am dying for gingerbread but don’t want to lose my launcher pro!
Thanks
re-read it. it doesn’t root. got it.
another problem i am hearing about is the backlight on the bottom keys. this plus the fact that there are no speed.mod kernels for it make it a double bummer. will keep on waiting i guess….
no @mike it doesn’t root the device!
@mike you can download the launcher pro again, 2.3.3 supports
After ungraded to 2.3, I can’t find the Chinese input, how to install it.Thanks a lot.
after successful upgrade to xwjvb , sgs startup no sound, what is the problems
how come all the phones in the world works with out clicking re partition i triad many times and bricked it cant get back into download mode luckily i had a jig for helping me even with one file if i don’t click re partition wont work i have to have it on to work auto reboot on reset time on so on i have a Australian sgs i download the one up there and followed the steps and got bricked then triad second time this time with re partition auto reboot reset time PIT – s1_odin_20100512.pit PDA – PDA_XWJVB_Sbl.tar.md5
Phone – PHONE_XXJVK.tar.md5
CSC – CSC_XEE_JV3.tar.md5 and it worked so my q how come every ones is working with out clicking re partition pissing me off im ready to smash some one if no replays
Hi neel
great posts mate, helped me upgrade from 2.2 to 2.2.1
with this upgrade ive noticed that it uses 512 pit file. my question is that will the 803 pit file used for the XWJS7 2.2.1 upgrade and will it work better?
thanks
@sid pit won’t affect the performance in any manner!
Nice update, works fine only my 3G connection is not working anymore…

successfully able to upgrade after reinstall. I am facing following issues:
1. I am in roaming area but it still showing “Not Roaming”
2. Mobile no. is showing “Unknown”
Please help me to resolve this issue.
@ashish it depends on your service provider! This may be a temporary issue with the service provider, just check by inserting the other service provider’s sim.
Hey Neil,
I have tried inserting Vodafone Sim but still Mobile Number is shows “Unknown” and Roaming as “Not Roaming”.
I have run update again. this time it was successful.
Need one clarification about what means “New Home Screen UI (drag down)”?
the user interface of the home screen when you drag down the screen, which is shown in the screen shot over there!
Works Perfect after reinstalling.
But I am in network roaming area but in phone it is showing “not roaming” and Mobile number is not showing.
You are a legend!
Hey Neil, Thanks for the post. after reinstalling update works.
I have following issue.
When I checked in About Phone>Status then
1. Phone number is showing as Unknown
2. Even though I am in roaming area it shows Not Roaming in Roaming
Thanks
@ashish its actually an operator issue!

Hi neal, i have the same issue as Dave. I did restart my computer removed the battery of the phone but i still got the same message. Odin did say pass though. But after rebooting it kept on lopping at the Galaxy S logo. i reflashed my unit twice and still got the same result.
Hi Dave
Have you got a solution? my phone displays the same to after flashing the firmware. Thanks
Hey Mac, Neal,
I had the same problem as Mac. But my problem only started when I clicked on CWM and tried backing up. Was stuck @ Galaxy S logo. I used Odin to re-flash again everything from the beginning, and this time it worked.
However, I’m still stuck with System Recover 3e. I tried using ROM Manager to backup, again there was an error, but thankfully it did not brick my phone.
Any advice Neal? I found some advice that I should flash a CWM compatible recovery to replace the 3e. How do I do that and will that help the resolve the errors?
Dave ….
Your err same as mine ….
just try to redo it again with all select show in the guide + select the re-partition …. then is will back to normal…but all data will gone..
Neal Pradeep,

Hello one question ..I put gingerbread 2.3.3 from your instruction .and I have a BIG problem ..I clean chache twice and my battery barely endure 6 hours.overnight without wireless with 40% in 6 hours emptying the phone.until I had frojo 2.2.1 Battery me through the night fell 1%. and held the two days
can you help me please
what I can do
I fix problem ,,,
1.I root my phone from http://www.theandroidsoul.com/how-to-root-xwjvb-and-install-clockwork-mod-cwm-recovery/
and download from market battery calibration ,,now it great……thk
I have succesfully updated my firmware to 2.3.3 on my galaxy s i9000 and it works well, i just noticed one thing, why is it that the menu key and return key were always on when the screen is on and it doesn’t automatically shut off unlike before, it automatically shuts off even after maybe a couple of seconds while the screen is still on, it really hurts my eyes specially when i’m watching a movie in dark places because those buttons are always on. What can i do about it? Thank you.
I am facing the same problem… i really wish Neal can figure out this problem… but, apart from that, great going Neal… The instructions were really easy and nicely laid out… Great Job!!!
but, please help me out with this problem… Much appreciated…
hey @billy restart pc as well as phone and then retry the process, firmware will be successfully updated! without any issues!
hey….. i restarted my computer, and phone then i switched it off again, removed the sim card, and then put in on download mode… did the whole process again…. but, alas…. the problem persists…. is there any other way for those two lights to turn off before the screen? it seems now like those lights are connected to the screen.. (when the screen turns off, so do the lights.)
@billy go to backlight settings and set the time for the backlight, by default its selected to “NONE”
by the way.. i went into the recovery mode and wiped out all the cache and did a factory reset too…
@billy is problem solved now?
Neal, im sorry, i hate to be a git… but, could you please tell me as to where those settings are… cos i am not able to find them.. and i’m sorry to put you thru this trouble… but, Thank you very much.
@Billy its not the question of trouble as we are here to help you! Just go to settings and then select display backlight time.
Neal, thanks for the kind words…. but, under settings<display< ( i have wallpapers, font style, brightness, auto-rotate screen, animation, screen timeout, power saving mode, tv out and horizontal calibration… ) i dont have back-light time at all…. ( i dont remember having backlight time either before this… ) so.. if there is a way….
@billy check screen time out and choose 15 seconds preferably!
yes neal.. i did that.. the whole screen is switching off after 15 seconds, but, the two lights, like i said, are somehow linked to the screen… watching videos and stuff… the two white lights are becoming a pain… but, as far as i can understand, you have a galaxy s too… how do you have the option of backlight settings when i dont??
@Billy sorry for saying backlight time as am using another ROM and not on 2.3.3 XWJVB currently. Do one thing flash your device again, things should be sorted out!
ok.. i’ll flash it again… but, i doubt that it will make any difference… and you have to tell me how to do a lagfix on it… without rooting the device, (is it possible..?)
I will let you know how the flash went.
ok… i flashed it again.. but, in odin, the “reset” never changed to “pass” even though i flashed it some 4-5 times… i mean, is this normal or is something wrong?? and those 2 lights are still on….
ok.. the “reset” changed to “pass” but after the reboot of the phone and stuff.. but, still the problem of the two lights persists… Please do something about it… Thanks…
Hi Neal! What is the password for clearing the cache? andoridadvices.com doesnt work. Maximum number of password chracrter is only 16. Please advice. Thanks
hi @mac for clearing the cache it won’t ask for the password!

Question:
1) I didn’t notice this before, but in the APN settings, after adding a new APN and saving it, I didn’t see it listed in the APN setting page (?)
2) Also, when I tried to Enable MOBILE DATA (with Quick Settings App), it doesn’t disconnect (after displaying “Disconnecting …” for 2-3mins, it eventually goes back to Connect I unlock the phone.
Any suggestions?
Willing
It’s ok. Its because Quick Setting App is yet to be fully compatible with Android 2.3.3 yet. Thanks!
Hey you rock man! I rebooted my sys..as well as mob…it all happened correct!! I am so happy

U shld have used the backup methods which are mentioned in the post.. u can try connecting to kies and thn restore the same.
hi Neal,
I want to try your tutorial and this firmware update but i also want to be able to get back to my original firmware so that i may be able to update through keis when the official gingerbread firmware arrives for my region. as of the moment, when i do *#1234# what comes out is (PDA: I9000ZSJPK / Phone: I9000ZSJPG / CSC: I9000ZSJPG). I there a way you could send me instructions and links to for me to be able to go back to that firmware and files so that i can download already before taking the leap and upgrading? Thanks so much in advance for your help!
The only reason I am itching to try this is because my current firmware drains battery so much when wifi is on and i can’t enjoy the phone anymore because of this. I hope the gingerbread option your presenting solves this issue=)
Ton
Hi Neal.. i have been following androidadvices for quite some time now. I am in India on Airtel. everytime i upgrade to New firmware , even in this latest GB release. I seem to have a lot of data connection problems.
I always have to manually deactiavte data connection and then activate inorder to my 3G work.
Can u gimme a fix for this, any stable release in which this problem is not there. i am really pissed off as i use data services alot on my phone.
Thanks and regards,
Shreenidhi [Bangalore ]
Hi Neal,
I did went through all your procedures couple of times…The PDA download stopped at 125MB out of 183 MB. Any issue in the download or in the package?
For people who are thinking about doing this – be careful! I am stuck on the Galaxy S window and seems theres no way out – multiple reflashes and waiting for hours.
Think twice … dont wreck your phone like I have. Just wait for the official update.
Right… I may have spoken too soon!
What I did to get this working was…
1. I left it stuck on the Galaxy S screen for 10 minutes after ‘Pass’ came up.
2. The I removed the battery to switch it off.
3. Restarted in in the menu mode. – long press the volume up key, press Menu as holding both the buttons press the power button to start.
4. Wipe data/factory reset
5. Wipe Cache partition
6. Reboot system now
Sorted!
@misco hi can u pls tell me the exact issue.? if you follow the exact procedure given above then theres no way tht u will wreck or brick ur phone. it takes bit longer time on s logo. you need tp be patient.
Hi, yes, I understand. Unfortunately, a “bit” longer for me was too long… I waited 40 minutes before realising that I wasnt getting anywhere – so I had to do the above.
yeh, not bricked the phone.
After a few days of running it – I can report as being most obvious to me…
1. Speed is excellent!
2. The GPS is snappy! (at last!)
Unfortunately
1. Wifi is less powerful.
2. most of the ram is taken up.
I note one more problems.
1. The two led buttons are always on when the screen is on. There is no way to solve this issue.
@miaco set the time for the backlight display to 15 seconds or say 30 seconds!
The setting of backlight time doesn’t work. Rather than Neal repeating the same thing, I suggest people follow this method that actually sorts the button problem.

Hi Neal
Thank you so much for a very well made instruction, I really appreciate it. I’ve successful updated my phone without any error. Performance is really fast compare to the previous stock version of 2.2.1 even without installing any lagfix…etc…one thing i have notice is the keys below the screen are always on unlike before that it will automatically turn off in a matter of seconds specially when watching movies or playing games…but overall… A great firmware. ^^
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KY1YXrltIRE how to update to this FW ?this differs with kernel ?
Please help me !!!Odin gets stuck at SetupConnection. And when I try starting my phone i see a computer!android picture…HELPPP!!
@radu juz try restrtng pc n phone and retry the process..
@Radu just restart the computer as well as phone and then re do the process!
Help please my phone doesn’t work…i have followed the ste[t above and now the phone doesn’t start any more…..o onlt get the logo image and that is it….enters download mode …..
what should i do ……
if i start it it keeps on rebooting..over and over again…
@razvan flash it again and be patient as it hangs up for sometime on the “S” Logo.
Please see my previous post. I solved it using the method described.
Awesome! Tried the unstable version which bricked my phone but this has worked fine! Cheers buddy!
Hi Neel
thanks for your previous reply. i just installed 2.3.3xwjvb on my i9000 noticed a few things.
1. the back and menu keys at the bottom of the screen stay lit all the time, is this normal n will it affect the battery?
2. i noticed the ram usage was higher than with 2.2.1xwjs7 firmware and also the quadrant score was lower (950 compared to 1024). Does this mean the 2.3.3 upgrade makes the phone have a lower performance maybe also higher battry comsumption? and also is the higher ram consumption gonna affect the phones multitasking capability?
i know i have quite a few questions, but i would really appreciate it if you could answer them to the best of your ability.
Thanks
you need to set the backlight time, as by default it’s set to none.
The performance of this fw is much more better than others and also RAM consumption won’t mean that phone’s slower as this one optimizes the speed in a much more better manner!
Hi neel thanks for the quick reply.
I looked around in the settings and can’t see a backlight option. Can you please help me with this. Also will the reduced quadrant scores affect me in any way.
Thank you
hey @sid actually quadrant rank sometimes doesn’t showcase the speed of the device efficiently as there are many types of file systems which changes the parameters!
Hi Neal!
I’m new to Androids, just got my SGS few weeks ago. I got it from HK, and i’m running on 2.1.1, baseband version I9000ZSJPG. I have a question regarding the languages – will I have a choice of different languages after flashing to 2.3.3? I need chinese as I’m living in China atm, and also Russian if possible (and English of course). Will I be able to install those languages on my phone, or its English only atm?
Thank you in advance!
PS: and thanks for this great website, tons of useful info here.
PPS: What is the difference between your post from March 27th (Update Samsung Galaxy S GT I9000 to Stable Gingerbread XXJVK 2.3.3), and this one? Is this version more stable/latest?
@timmey yes its close to stable, but frankly a thumbs up for this firmware! Go ahead and install it!
Neal, but what about the languages? Its quite important for me to have at least chinese on my phone, please let me know if there is a way to install it, or if I can choose chinese & english after flashing my phone.
Thanks
@Timmey sure we have taken down your request, will cover the same in coming days!
after doing all the steps,, my phone won’t get to the language setting thingy. and i got frustrated and disconnected my phone from my computer. then i tried the steps all over again.. i think my phone got crashed.. i cannot on my phone.. onlything they show is a warning sign.. what do i do??
@Lee Tae Kyung pull off the battery, restart pc and follow the above procedure again after which go to Locale and text to choose your preferred language!
Alright Neal, thanks a bunch! I’ll wait for the updates on this matter. Hope I can update to Gingerbread and still keep at least English and Chinese.
Thanks for your hard work!
Cheers
@Timmey sure!
hi followed the instructions but the phone now goes into infinite reboot mode. Please help.
@dread reflash the device again!
Neal, I have a T-Mobile USA SGS Vibrant T959. Does this 2.3.3 update apply to my phone as well and would it be network compatible. I am currently on 2.2. I am ready to install it on my phone but just making sure.

I bought i9000 in Iran market and with Persian keyboard installed. But I have some problems I hope you help me to solve:
1.however I sign in with my primary account I don’t see my device in android market(my android is upper than 1.5).
2.I cannot install 90% of application and games that I download with torrent(is that my device problem or it is because of torrent files nature?)
I need to add that as I find out Galaxy s I9000 it comes originally with android 2.1 but when I check the “About phone” it was like below:
“Firmware version” –> 2.2
“Baseband Version” –> I9000JXJPB
“Kernel version”–>2.6.32.9 root@SE-S606 #53
“Build number” –> FROYO JPJPA
IS THAT THE ORIGINAL OS IT SHOULD COME WITH AND IF NOT COULD IT BE CUES OF ALL MY PROBLEMS?
Hi there,
What is the advantage of installing gingerbread over froyo other than having the latest ??
I often have people complining about my mic quality when on phone call …..lack of clairy – speaker phone is better but not always convenient. Not using a phone case and now trying to speak more directly towards the mic
Would the gingerbread OS fix the poor microphone speech quality on galaxy I9000 ?
any help much appreciated
rdgds
warren
@Warren gingerbread won’t affect mic quality, it’s the look out of service provider, we can’t control the mic quality as a user. Gingerbread brings in better User experience with greater battery life!
hi
2.3.3 does not connect to internet give a solution
@sankar kindly read the article carefully!
HI,
i have huge issue! i’m from singapore and after flashing this rom i can use my 3g network! i even have issue with bluetooth! please help!!!!
@JERE have you checked the bluetooth settings? And also since you have installed the new firmware you will have to configure the internet APN settings. Kindly follow the article carefully.
HI,
thanks for reply, bluetooth no issue now however i still have problem with 3g data network. i have already checked mobile network and ensure it was ticked “use packed data” hoever the ’3g logo doesnt appear on the top right hand corner where it used to be, any idea??
@JERE 3G Logo never is displayed on top right as on the top right side time is displayed!
HI Pradeep,
sorry, i’m not sure how i can explain to you, but i’m not able to activate my 3g network, is there anything i miss out?
Hi Neal, I found this rom pretty interesting but havnt installed yet. Please clarify my doubts:
1. Since its not rooted how CWM works like back-up and restoration etc.
2. How mode can be activated so that all commands which i used to enter in my 2.2.1 sgs i9000, would start getting work on this 2.3.3 rom also
3. Are you using the stock rom for 2.3.3?
Best Regards
Abhi
@abhi
1. its not a CWM ROM, its a normal stock ROM!,
2. Just read the article and you are there with the new firmware,
3. yes am using the same!
Do, let us know if you face any issues!
If it is not rooted then AdFree and other apps for Rooted phone will not work with this rom?
and one last question
how will i do the backup and restore activity which i am performing frequently with CWM boot screen.
Thanks for the quick reply Neal. Love your work and fast reply.
Hey,
I have some questions for you.
1. Am I able to change the language to german?
2. Is there a chance to save my existing 2.2.1 and back it up if 2.3.3 doesn’t work for me so my warranty is still there?
3. Is this a Version with many bugs inside? If yes, what are the main disadvantages?
It would be nice from you if you could answer my questions. You’ve done great work with this tutorial
@blauersalon
1. NO as of now,
2. no..,
3. This version is closed to the stable release, if there are any issues then do let us know about the same, we will help you in solving them. You might face 10% less battery issues, keeping it apart there are no major issues!
This is wonderful i hope you will also provide the Indian rom once out..
now that my phone is running 2.3.3 i have lost the animation tone when the phone shuts and switched on… 1st thing i notice i got the phone on running
could you suggest
thanks
Nitin
Well some how i am force to believe 2.2.1 was working much better … as this OS takes a lot of time to boot and some lag…
I have just bought samsung i9000 of my friend which has 2.1 firmware. I like this because the new galaxy i9003 thats coming in India had LCD and samsung wont be able to produce any AMOLED displays this year for galaxy models as they are reserving amoled displays for Nexus. I am happy. Think of flashing it tonight and will let u know of any problems.
Thanks for this firmware.
Hi,
Can I use the above update to upgrade my G-I9003 that comes with a LCD instead of Super Amoled. Thanks alot!
@Bilal no as of now there is no update for 9003, as soon as it arrives we will post the same and will update you.
I have flashed my phone with 2.3.3 JVK and I would like to go to JVB, however I found the JVB firmware only with bootloader and these would not be needed because I already have them. Information on the web says that flashing bootloaders is risky. Is there any place where to find JVB without bootloaders?
thanks
Hi neal, the ginger bread update is working superbly on my phone. Thanks a lot:-)

Hi Neal,
Thanks for the update-it has definitely sped things up from the last version. The only problem I seem to be having is that my phone will not access data when not in wifi. I have checked the Roaming settings etc and they are switched on. I am in Australia and on the Optus network.
Thanks for any help that you can give me.
I am having this problem as well, any help would be appreciated.
Hey dude I figured it out you just got to go into ur wireless and network settings, go to APNs and enter all the info for your service provider. I easily found mine via google for bell in a forum you can do the same.
Cheers mate. haha. Didn’t see this post till after I had sorted it out, but thanks for the info
Is this stock rom compatible to samsung galaxy s i9000m?
Hi Neal…all sorted. Just had to put the APN’s in. If anyone for Australia is having the same issue, please check out this site.

After update 2.3.3 i cannot able to connect internet iam in india through edge videocon network
get the APN data from edge videocon (and throw that data inside Definitions > Wireless and network connections). they should have that info on their website, at least Vodafone Portugal has (someone even created a free app on the market called “APN Portugal” that auto detects the portuguese provider and configures everything).

Hi, I am in Saudi Arabia now and i just purchase Samsung Galaxy GT-I9000 s 16GB, but when i try to update my galaxy s through Kies there is no update option its shows “This Version of device cannot be update” my current firmware version: PDA:JPF/PHONE:JPD/CSC:JPF (XSG) and i check my galaxy from setting there also not appear update software, its shows Firmware version 2.2 and baseband version: I9000JXJPD kernel version: 2.6.32.9 and Build Number: Froyo.JPJPF. Now my question is, why i can not able to update from kies? and may I update this firmware of Gingerbread 2.3.3 at saudi arabia?? Please help me…..if yes how can i update? because my galaxy samsung s is very slow and battery also not durable.

Hi Neal. I´m pretty new to this Android thing. I live in Sweden, what update should I use?
XXJVK 2.3.3 or XWJVB 2.3.3.
What is the diffrens between them?
Which is the newest?
Kind regards
@spotless jvk is the newest!
Hi Neal,
I have upgraded my Galasy S to the OS based on your guidelines. Thanks a million. It works real smoooooooth!
My one question, in “About Phone” in the settting, I see:
Firmware version: 2.3.3
Baseband version: I9000xxjvk
Kernel version : 2.6.35.7-I9000XWJVB-CL118186
root@DELL102#2
Build number: GINGERBREAD.XWJVB
Am I having the latest version?
Hi,
I am a naive user and want to go to 2.3.3. Last time, i tried to move 2.1 to 2.2 using ODIN, my phone got bricked. I had to go to samsung service center, who were kind enough to correct it without charging anything. Therefore, I am very scared to update this. Can you please tell me if this update can be safely updated in Indian version. what steps I should follow apart from guide described above. And also, can you tell me how can I go back to my official version, in case I don’t like the current update as it is not mentioned anywhere.
Any vague idea when the official gingerbread update will come to india?
Thanks in advance! i’ll wait for your instructions
@Vikram there is still no ETA of the 2.3.3 Update in India but expect the same withing the next 1-2 months!
Hi,
I did it without getting it bricked time. Thanks a lot.

Hi Harold,
I’d like to ask you something.
Are the capacitive buttons (the back and options button) working well? They don’t stay lit all the time?
i really want to upgrade to gingerbread but having second thoughts as i’ve read in previous comments that the capacitive buttons are always glowing.
Thanks,
neiL
Hey Neil,
The led lights or whatever are lit all the time. I never noticed it before u asked me. I also didnt know that it was a malfunction of the os. I dont think it is a problem though, it depends on different android OSs (according to me!!). ps when i lock the phone the lights turn off (i noe its obvious, jst fr ur info.)

Hi Neal,
I upgraded my phone using the firmware update. It successfully loaded all the required files but when my phone restart it only shows the Galaxy S Screen and nothing happens. Anything I need to do?
btw… Odin say’s it passed and I still have not removed the USB cable. do I need to manually reboot the phone?
ok, i am about to have a panic attack here but i must have 2.3.3, i flashe to 2.2.1 when i couldnt wait any longer for optus in oz to get around to it, all went well but i nearly needed all my xanax so wish me a calm smooth trip ok? i will need it
oh man i am so glad that went well, after a hour use all seems perfect, no issues with any of the features. all apps are supported and very happy. thank you neal thank you. lets hope i am not speaking too soon
Neal,

- I’ve a T Mobile I9000 which I bring along from USA and using with non US-mobile operators but after this flash my sim didnot work. so need an urgent solution please.
hi blue rage (if odin says pass then: ) when the phone is showing the s logo enter into recovery mode, and then clear cache and factory reset (i m not sure, it MAY work coz it worked for me)
btw after u hv successfully installed ur fw can u pls tell me that is the menu the froyo one and what bout the keyboard thank u!!!
Hi Harold,
First off all thanks for the tip. I worked on the issue I am having. Happy to get that fixed.
As for your inquiry, the UI is still similar to Froyo UI. Not much changes, the keyboard is already gingerbread which supports multitouch. Hope this helps!!!
Again thanks a lot for your help!
BTW… I also upgraded to the XWJVH FW version that Neal have provided. I can see that the phone is faster than before which is a good improvement.
Thanks for the new FW Neal!
Hi blue rage,
are the capacitive buttons/led lights okay? they don’t stay glowing all the time?
I’m thinking about upgrading my phone but afraid ‘coz of this issue.
Thanks,
neiL
Hi Neil,
I don’t seems to notice as I have not really paid much attention to it. The new keyboard layout is ok in terms of spacing…
why dont u give it a try… I think u can still go back to the old fw if need too
I have followed every steps you mentioned in this website and everything went smoothly until I clicked the “start” button. Nothing happened except in the message box which stated :
Added!!
v.3 engine(ID:4)
I have tried 4 times but still having the same problem. Please help.
Hi Neal,
Ive got a few questions im hoping u can help me out with. I want to update my galaxy s from 2.2 to 2.3, but its rooted and has a voodoo lagfix. Wondering if i need to unroot it and remove lagfix before doing so? I know how to unroot it but not sure what voodoo version i have or how to remove it.
Looking to root and lagfix fix once upgrade also. Would a lagfix root my phone, or would i have to root it also? Can u suggest any?
Thanks
Hi Neal,
I am very new to this forum, and also new to performing a FW flash using Odin software. Normally, I would just use the KIES software to upgrade my FW, however your instructions seem very clear, and most of the people who have tried it, managed to install this properly.
My questions to you are the following:
1. If I install this FW upgrade, using Odin, and following your instructions, will I still be able to use Kies, if a newer version gets out?
2. If something goes wrong, and it doesn’t work satisfactory, or whatsoever, will I be able to connect to Kies to install the current FW that I am running?
I just want to make sure, that if something happens, I am not stuck with a useless phone.
Looking forward to your response.
Regards,
Bulent.
@bulent yes kies will run,
not to worry, just report the issues here in the comments and we will help you for sure!

What should i do? Can i just upgrade straight to 2.3.3 XWJVH eventhough i’m still stuck with S logo?

Hi Neal,
After the fifth try…success!!!! Maybe u might to add some tips for those who have stuck in S logo.

Hi there.
cleared cache..and done everything step by step.. any ideas what could be a problem/ :/
just finished all the steps..everything seems to work fine but! i’ve noticed that my live wallpaper is lagging :/ which is very annoying
thank you.
by the way..when i connected the phone to Kies, it said that there is a newer version of software available.. ? what does it mean?
Hi Neal,
Thanks for your dedication to helping all of us! I had used your previous instructions in the past to upgrade my Samsung Galaxy S i9000 to version XXJVK 2.3.3; and I read most of the posts here before trying to install this newer more stable release. I downloaded the complete 2.3.3 XWJVB Package you have posted here and proceeded to follow all your instructions here.
Everything worked well, and the phone is working fine. One thing I notice is that when I check my About Phone information in my settings, my phone still shows Gingerbread.XXJVK as the build number and not Gingerbread XWJVB as it should.
Are there separate instructions for upgrading from the previously leaked version, or am I doing something wrong. As I sated before, it seems to be working fine; just not upgrading to this version.
I would appreciate your thoughts and suggestions. Thank you.
Gabriel

Hi Neal,

My one question, in “About Phone” in the settting, I see:

Hey again…
is it normal that battery emptyes in like 9hours of moderate usage? i don’t have wifi turned on if i don’t use it… mobile data is off…gps is off… screen brightness on almost low… network set to GSM only…
today i played games for like 30min and made 4 calls… the phone has been charging all night… i unpluged it at 8am today…now it’s 16:32 here and i have only 14% of battery…
any suggestion how to fix it or should i try XXJVO, XWJVH?
Luka
I installed this on my Galaxy S and everything has been great, except that my phone is unable to use cellular data, or receive mms. I’ve checked with my carrier, optus, and it’s nothing on their part. I was just wondering if you know of any solution to this?
@SIMON configure the APN Settings as mentioned in the article!
ok i hate that i can use my phone for only 5hours then its dead…
i have read some forums and they say that xxjpy 2.2.1 is very stable and has better battery life…
i wanna try the xxjpy 2.2.1 …. how do i go form xwjvb 2.3.3 to xxjpy 2.2.1…
Luka
Hi Neal,
I’m having an issue. Sometimes the battrey drains over night from like 70% to 10%, while doing no activity whatsoever (no calls, no internet, screen totally off) and when I check the battrey graph and see what has been eating up my battrey, it says ‘Android OS – 80%’ . What is the issue? I didn’t get it.
Kindly guide me.
Thanks
@haroon try the new firmware of xxjvo 2.3.3.
Hi Neal,
I saw a video on youtube about a guy who already installed honeycomb 3.0 on his galaxy S. When do you think you will have this available for us, to flash?
Thanks in advance for your response.
Regards,
Bulent.
Hi man . thks for update file. I do Updating but after I update the phone.I lost My native languge (PERSAIN)
foryo version supported persian language. but this version of gingerberd doesnt.CAn u help me with that.
hey @hamed it will be difficult to check with the language but you can try in the XXJVO 2.3.3 version of Gingerbread for SGS which is the latest!
hi. There is another question. I root my phone after updating. If I update to XXJVO , should I root it again?
one more question, is there any software (free) or any way to move ringtone from sdcard to system folders?
Hey all i thought i would ask like all of you guys have already done so before me, but one thing i like to make sure is that i am sure 100% before attempting anything like this.
So after hours and hours of carefully reading the questions and replies not just from on here but other sites too is that one thing that would make this all easier to do is if it were clearer more about what is the zone of the updates themselves ie, UK/Europe, USA, Asia etc; because frankly i’m still none the wiser lol
All i seem to read is everyone has different firmware to mine and with them all stating errors of some sort i am still a little apprehensive in going through with it. So all i ask is which firm-ware do i use to upgrade with regards to my own UK Model which is as follows :
PDA: I9000BVJS4
PHONE: I9000BVJP4
CSC: I9000ORAJS4
BUILD: 2011.02
Kernel 2.6.32.9 root@DELL104#1
So i await patiently for any help that comes my way..big props to this site too…ansolute God send!
Kind Regards,
Lee
Would you please tell me what is the zip password for ‘complete 2.3.3 XWJVB Package’? i can’t open it without password.

Just upgraded my phone with the help of your tutoria. All i have to say is that everything west soooo smoothly! You did a great job explaining step by step as of what should and should not do, and you were a great deal of help.Phone works like a charm and you can “feel the change”!
Τhanks again!Thumbs up!!!
@Mario thanks for your appreciation, looking forward for your association in future too and do spread a message about this site to your fellow friends who have Android phones!
Hi Neal,
I have installed everything according to your instructions, and it all works well. I had two problems though:
1. I had to ask for APN settings from my provider, which were send by sms, an installed automatically, so problem solved.
2. My default whether and finance widgets are actually gone! Do you know how I can get these back.
Other than that everything works great;
Swype Works,
Better battery optimization,
Better overall fluid like Animation effects,
Phone is faster then before,
New Home Screen UI (drag down),
Connects with KIES Successfully &
Wi Fi / 3G and Packet data connects absolutely fine
Looking forward to your valuable response.
Regards,
Bulent.
@bulent just download it again!

Great site.
I bought my galaxy phone in Saudi Arabia. It does not come with market installed, or at least its supressed or not enabled.
I tired changing the region setting as suggested on a few other sites. But none of the methods worked.
During my search for a solution I found this tutorial. Not only did this work flawlessly it also removed all the restrictions placed on the phone. Hurray! Market is there, maps, navigation and so on.
Thanks for the files and the advice!
MT

Hi
Im new to all of this as i have not done anything to any of my phones except update via kies…So if this is a silly question i do apologize..Im just so sick of the freezing and crashing issues on froyo 2.2 and dont want to wait to long for update as i am located in australia and it could still be a while.
Was just wanting to make sure that i am not rooting my phone at all. I dont want to void my warranty..I have been told that if you do flash your phone then that is what they call rooting it and it voids the warranty.
Thanks for your help..
Worked for me!
Thanks!
I don’t trust this at all. I don’t know why, but I’m constantly thinking that I will ruin my phone by going through this procedure. And I tried the download mode, but instead of the yellow thing, I got tiny yellow letters saying something about updating or something, and then the letters disappeared, and my phone didn’t start! So I just removed the flap on the back, took the battery-thing out and put it in again. I was like: GOSH, IT STILL WORKS, after I saw that my phone started, so this is no done for me.
have you cleared the cache and tried again!

The damn GT-I9000T from Telcel Mexico is back with new problems !
Odin stuck on the sbl.bin.
I first thought it was bricked with the lights on and kind of “circle” in the screen, then I tried different buttons and had a crazy multi-color frozen screen but finally download mode came again. I tried again Odin and check Re-Partition but stuck once more on sbl.bin.
I can read herea guy from Mexico has the same problem, constantly. I can’t understand the fix.
I never spent so much time on the computer trying to make this trap phone to work.

I was stuck with Eclair for so long and wanted to update but was so scared of bricking my lovely Gal S…so many complicated-looking steps and downloads of programmes talks of rooting and flashing…what do those things mean anyway?? This guide was just great. Screenshots were a huge help. It took me around 20 minutes or so (because I made a mistake) but I now have Gingerbread and love it. Phone is noticeably faster. Not sure about battery life yet, only did this 2/3 hours ago, but it’s looking good. Thanks a million, guys!!
have you cleared the cache?
Hey, thanks for the info on here, but when I click “Start” on Odin, the messages get stuck on:
Added!!
Odin v.3 engine (ID:5)..
File analysis..
Enter CS for MD5..
Leave CS..
Enter CS for MD5..
Leave CS..
Enter CS for MD5..
Leave CS..
Can you please tell me why that happens and if there’s a solution? Thanks
remove the battery and retry the flashing process!

Does it work fine on a I9000XXJPP baseband version?
yes it will work! Do let us know if you face any issues!
well as first it failed. i don’t know why but when i clicked start in odin’s main screen it got stuck there and no status bar appeared. after half an hour i gave up, disconnected my phone and surprise! my phone was not finding its android system. after that i got my laptop, installed kies, updated it, installed the drivers again, and then everything went just fine. thanks for everything. i ended up doing this update because when i tried via kies i got a “no sim card detected” error and then it was unable to update my android
now is the issue got solveD?
Thanks for detailed quideline and files!! My only problem was that Odin3 v1.0 didn’t recognize my phone with previous 2.3.3 version. I had to get later version of odin (1.3) and it went fine then.

Hi Neal,
I was just wondering if this will work if I have a custom ROM and I decide to have this 2.3.3 firmware installed on my phone.
I’m from the Philippines and I have a MIUI MCGv 7.6 build.
Thanks
clear everything that is the cache and data from recovery mode before you proceed to update this!
Thanks Neal,
Should I do that before the 1st step of this process?

Thank you Neal! I appreciate the help.
Dear All
Since I have my Galaxy S since December, I had the chance to perform (through Kies) 3 firmware upgrades. All were good, except for the last one (2.3.3), who looks good, in terms of graphics, but overheats my phone. My phone is permanently hot, especially on the top side, and the battery goes in less than one hour. Before, using an app from the market, I was able to keep it for 10-12 hours without charging, but now my phone is almost useless. Is there any solution for this?
Thank you,
you can update with XXJVR 2.3.4 to get rid of phone heating!
Thank you for your answer. I have connected my phone today with Kies, and apparently there is no firmware update available. Can you please let me know how can I update it to 2.3.4?
Thank you,
you can find the XXJVR 2.3.4 for your SGS FROM ANDROIDADVICES.COM
perfect article to upgrade 2.2 froyo to 2.3.3 gingerbread in Saudi Arabia. I just upgraded mine without any hicups!
thansk dude, you rock!
I would like to express my appreciation to the writer for rescuing me from this scenario. Just after surfing through the online world and meeting advice which were not pleasant, I thought my entire life was gone. Existing without the presence of strategies to the problems you’ve sorted out through your good report is a crucial case, and the kind which could have negatively damaged my career if I had not noticed your blog post. Your actual ability and kindness in taking care of the whole lot was very helpful. I’m not sure what I would’ve done if I had not encountered such a subject like this. It’s possible to now relish my future. Thank you very much for your professional and results-oriented guide. I won’t think twice to recommend your web sites to any person who would need recommendations on this issue.
Hello, just upgraded and all seems to have worked fine. However, the phone neither shows nor has a data connection anymore (no Edge, 3G, 2G or any other data connection). I don’t have any notification of this in the pull-down menu where there used to be a button to start/stop data networks in Froyo. No idea if that’s new in Gingerbread or if there’s something wrong on my side.
I’m in Switzerland, using Orange as a provider. Any idea what to do?
check with the service provider for the settings!

HEY NEAL…. i bought Galaxy s I9000 wid android 2.2 now i want to upgrade it…
please tell me wich is the best android version for this device??? …which works perfectly…& improves the device rather than causing problems…THANX…help appreciated !!
ok so I upgraded Galaxy S yesterday to your version Gingerbread.. all seemed ok.. but now I am having voicecall problems… i place a call… it connects …i do not hear the other person [they hear me] … if i put on speaker it works… if i put head phones in it works..i can hear the call. If I receive a call there is no problem. Thinking there is something wrong with the receiver speaker.
Any suggestions for what is going wrong…could it be the upgrade?
Also now in Keis says : Firmware S/W version in your phone is not official version. Upgrade of unofficial version is not supported. What does this mean in practical terms?
current firmwar version: PDA:JVK/PHONE:JVK/CSC:JVK (XXX)
I followed your advie on my Samsung Galaxy S GT I9003. Everything went fine until the phone rebooted after I saw the “Pass Message”. My Phone is not rebooting at all and it is just a black screen of death. Before doing this, my battery had 100% power and I never unplugged the USB cable. In fact, I followed each and every step but my phone is not booting at all.
I tried booting by long pressing the power key and then pressing the power, Volume down and home button but it does not work at all. Tried all possible combinations, but nothing works
I have three questions
1. How can I boot my phone?
2. Have my Phone completely damaged?
3. Should I take the device to a nearby Samsung service centre and get the device replaced (Phone age is only 6 months). Wil they replace the device is the phone does not boot at all (with full battery)
I am eagerly waiting for your response
If I apply this 2.3.3 upgrade will I still have the Samsung apps like Keyboard swipe?
i have 2.3.5 xxjvs and i have problems with that ,so i want to go back to official gingerbread 2.3.3 ,can i install this on the 2.3.5 ?
YES YOU CAN INSTALL WITH THE SAME!
