How To Update Samsung Galaxy Tab to stable Gingerbread 2.3.3 Firmware

  • After getting into the download mode again, open the Odin from your computer and connect the tab to the computer with the help of USB cable and without changing any parameters after which the ID : COM part will turn yellow. After this you will have to tap on the “PDA” and select the file called the “dbdata.tar”.
  • After selecting the file, just click on the Start button to start the process of updation. So, as soon as the updation procedure is finished you will be intimated on screen and also the device will be updated. The time taken at this stage too will be not more than a maximum of 15 minutes. Please note that in case of power failure, then you will have to start the whole procedure again.
  • After the updation procedure is finished, you will see that the device will be restarted and then now you will have to clear the cache and the data which is present in the phone, as some of the data present in your Tab may get corrupted after this new firmware update.
  • For wiping the cache data which is present in your Galaxy Tab, first switch off the Galaxy Tab as you will now have to power ON your device in the recovery mode. To enter into the recovery mode, long press the volume up key, press Menu as holding both the buttons press the power button to start. You can see that after device gets switched ON, you will find options like clear cache data. You can clear that by selecting options Wipe data/factory reset and also you need to select Wipe Cache partition after which you need to reboot your device by selecting reboot system now after which your Galaxy Tab will be rebooting and again you will have to set up your Google accounts etc. Doing this will not only optimize the battery but will also remove all the data flux from your phone.

For checking on which firmware you are currently on, you will have to go to the Settings > About Phone > Firmware Version where you will find the version of Android OS where it will show 2.3.3.As you can see above that we have shown some of the images of latest Gingerbread update.

Note : You will have to reconfigure the APN settings after updating the firmware to access the data services and the Internet services as all the Internet APN settings will be reset. You will have to contact your Service provider which is Verizon Wireless to get more info on the APN Settings. Not to forget also configure the MMS Settings.

So, in this way you have successfully updated your Samsung Galaxy Tab with the latest 2.3.3 Android’s Gingerbread release successfully. Do let us know if you face any issues as we will try to help you out.

  4. Not sure if the screen is a mcokup or not but having the on screen keyboard display when using the physical keyboard doesn’t strike me as a particularly neat solution, especially as Samsung’s hardware keyboard does away with it Hopefully the image is wrong, not the implementation

  5. Me dull. You smart. That’s just what I nedeed.

  6. I’m using galaxy tab p1000
    Firmware 2.2
    Bbv-P1000DDJM1
    Kernal version -2.6.32. 9 root@SE-S605 #2
    Build number -froyoddjm2
Can I upgrade to gingerbread 2.3? And how? Plzz help Mr. PRADEEP NEEELA. Thank you.

  7. How to up date

  8. Is there an update for the SGT p1000n please i would like to know.
    thanks

  9. Just to give a little more info. The Galaxy Tab if have GT-P1000R, 7″, is now SaskTel friendly, complete with phone and messaging which I did not have before the update.

I did previously use a utility from FastGSM to unlock the phone prior to the Gingerbread upgrade. IF that update is what allowed me to get the phone and messaging, then I was lucky to have run it.

Now I have a fully function 7″ tablet which I have carried with me the last three days. I like the larger screen, better for web viewing and reading but as a phone —- too big. Okay for home, okay for on the road but not to carry around.

Good thing is if I break my Samsung Galaxy S, I have a standby phone until I get it back from repairs.

Would most certainly love to try that Samsung Note … but it is not available from my cellular provider.

  10. Well I’ll be covered in butter and broiled to medium.

I downloaded ODIN 1.7 and reran the process. This time it worked.

    My GT-P1000R is now running 2.3.3, P1000XXJPZ, 2.6.35.7 kernel and GINGERBREAD.XXJQ1

Sometimes you get lucky when doing things. Just have to hit the right search words.

So there you have it, my solution – hope this helps anyone else.

  11. I think this is very bad news. I setup my GT-P1000R for download mode. I checked all the boxes but forgot to do the re-partiton one and ran the install. It failed after parm with a red square showing “FAIL”.

I then reread the instructions and clicked on the ‘re-partition’ box and ensured all others were right.

I then reran the setup and it again failed after parm with a red square showing “FAIL”.

    Now I may have pooched/bricked my GT-P1000R. All I have now it a screen showing a cell phone – ! – Computer

I have powered down, done the power up with volume down pressed but it only shows the screen with a cell phone – ! – computer.

! is a yield sign with the ! in the middle.

Is there anyway of getting out of this or is it due for shipping back to samsung?

    Any help, greatly appreciated.

  12. Hi guys,

I have read all the feedback here and I must say the procedure does work if you follow it strictly to the letter. I had a few probs as well with the initial guide as it did not contain or mention the dbdata.tar file, after getting that sorted the tab boots up beyond just the samsung logo. It will only hang at the logo if you have not flashed the dbdata file. And for those of you who say your phone doesn’t boot up after going into recovery mode and clearing the cache, my advice and I could be wrong here but this is what worked for me, is keep your phone on charge for a while and then try again, this process seems to put a drain on the battery and you will be faced with just a blank screen but if you keep the phone on charge for about half an hour and then press the power on button, you should go straight to the setup (language) options. Hope this helps, by the way thanks to the author Neal Pradeep, the new firmware looks great and I am thoroughly enjoying it.

  13. hi, i have a galaxy tab p1000..when i downloaded the bootloader and extracted it, i got a .tar file named P1000XXJQ1_P1000XXJQ1_P1000XXJPZ_HOME its 300+ mb.. i searched for the dbdata.tar its only 1.29mb..whats the use of the P1000xxpz_home?

  14. DON’T DO IT ON THE GALAXY TAB P1010

I followed the instructions to the letter and it immediately bricked my tab. This does NOT work and will destroy the wireless only version of the tab.

This site clearly has not successfully tested these instructions on a standard version of the wireless only tablet.

I know it was attempted at my own risk, but thanks a lot for nothing….

  15. I can’t find “dbdata.tar” on the downloaded file after extracting.. will this be created after doing the steps?

  16. can this be use to upgrade an SGT from vodafone australia?
    Model: GT-P1000
    Firmware version: 2.2
    Baseband Version:P1000XXJID
    Build No:FROYO.XWJJ4

  17. I tried this for the Galaxy 7 tab GT-P1010, and it crashed completely in the recovery mode. Complete black screen, no way to reset it. Please do not try this for GT-P1010.

The file is also labeled GT-1000, not GT-P1010, that should give a clue.

Hard reset did not even work anymore……

Unless someone else was able to try this successfully on GT-P1010, pls advise users in the text above this only works for GT-P1000.
