Ice Cream Sandwich LogoOn account of Valentine’s day, LG Optimus 2x P990 users can show their Love towards their phone as in the due course of this article we will be guiding you on how to update with the latest ICS Android 4.0.3 firmware in the form of Cyanogen Mod 9 firmware. Be informed that this is not an official firmware released by LG Electronics and also there is no ETA on by when there will be an ICS release. Also, please note that this update should strictly be applied to the devices which bear the model number as LG Optimus 2x P990 and to no other similar models of LG as this may even brick your device.

Disclaimer: At Android Advices, we have made sure in all respects that all the information regarding the firmware update is mentioned correctly in this article. We hold no responsibility in any manner just in case if any damage happens to your LG Optimus 2x which is a very unlikely event if you follow the instructions carefully.

  • Before proceeding, ensure that you have created a backup of all the data present in your phone so as to ensure that just in case if any of the data is lost or corrupted, the same can be restored easily with the help of below mentioned steps. Don’t backup the data using the PC Suite tools as your phone will not be detected by PC Suite after this update as the update I not yet officially out.

SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,
Notes – Manually save the notes in your mail as these will be lost in the process of firmware update
Call Log – Call Log and Restore
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names

  • Disable all the tools like Security SuitesFirewall tools along with the HTC Sync as these tend to interrupt the update process. The APN Settings are located in this path, Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names.
  • Minimum battery charged should be at least 70% so as to ensure that the phone doesn’t get turned Off in the middle of firmware update.

Assuming that you have followed all the instructions mentioned above, you can now proceed to the next page where we have summed up the list of instructions in a detailed tutorial.

Please be aware that this version lacks GPU acceleration therefore video playback lags a lot and of course you are unable to record video by this firmware.

    Try here dude: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Latest_Version/Google_Apps

Some people are pretty impatient. You can install this after you have put the new Operating System on too… Anyway DL the CyanMod9 version, put the zip file on your external SD card, then re-boot into recovery, then select install zip from SD card, then select the ‘gapps-ics’ file. Restart and you’ll be asked to enter your info and choose what you want to install

Google apps must be flashed straight after most custom roms. Download the latest ICS package here: http://goo.im/gapps/

Always clear cache/dalvic cache before flashing updates and if moving to a completely new rom, wipe data too.

Make sure you backup before flashing if you’re unsure of the process and look up guides on XDA and Modaco.

I had the same problem after I installed CM9 today. Followed the indtructions, and installation was smooth like an icecream. But, no Play Store (Market), though many other applications from my CM7 got carried over perfectly. I downloaded Google Play Store. It installed successfully. When I launch it, it starts and immediately closes itself. Same isssue while launching GMail – it shuts itself down. My Exhange email account is working fine though. Any help on what I can do to fix this?

    Junior Menezes.
