Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE – Steps to Increase Processing Speed with Custom Kernel

Please note that this kernel can only be applied on the rooted devices. To check on whether your phone is rooted or not, download the Root Checker app from the Google Play Store.

There are quite a few custom ROM firmwares based on the ICS Android 4.0 and Jellybean 4.1 firmware updates which we will be coming out in the next few coming days. With this kernel you can overclock CPU to 1.89 Ghz and under to 96Mhz. Applying this update won’t modify the current firmware in your device. All you need to ensure is that you are on the unlocked boot loader device with custom ROM firmware. SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log – Call Log and Restore
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names

Navigate to the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging”, enable the USB Debugging. Minimum battery charge should not be below 30% or else device is at risk of getting turned Off in the middle of flashing the kernel which may potentially brick the device.

You should have active USB ports with full read / write access and also disable / remove all the antivirus tools installed in your device.

Procedure to install Custom Kernel in Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE Android smartphone:

  • Download the custom Kernel in your computer and connect your Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE Android smartphone to the computer with the help of original USB cable. Place the downloaded Kernel file in your device and disconnect the connected device.
  • Turn Off your device so that it can be entered in the recovery mode. The recovery mode in the Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE can entered by first turning ON the device and when you see the Red colored Motorola Logo you need to keep pressing the Volume Down button till the device enters in the recovery mode. Please note that you should not long press the Volume Down button.
  • In recovery mode, select “install zip from sd card” > “choose zip from sd card” and then choose the placed Kernel package. Once the files are selected, it will take around 4 – 5minutes for applying the firmware update which can be tracked with the help of the progress bar.

So once the Kernel is updated successfully, you can now check the same on whether the kernel has been updated or not from the path “Settings > About Phone”

Note: Just in a rare case if your Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE refuses to turn ON or say if it gets stuck on the Motorola Logo then you need to long press the power button to turn off the same or re insert the battery to start the process from the start.
