Installing ClockworkMod Recovery
Please make sure that you apply this update using the Windows operating system that you have.
- First of all you need to download the ClockworkMod Recovery and also the Heimdall Suite, the download link for all of them are given below –
Jt1134’s ClockworkMod Recovery download
Heimdall Suite 1.1.1 download - The Heimdall Suite will require the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistribution Package, download it from here.
- Power off your Samsung Fascinate phone and connect the microUSB to the PC but not to the phone.
- Boot the Samsung Fascinate in download mode by holding the Volume Down, the Menu (Center) button and simultaneously you need to press the Power button to get your phone in download mode. If you are unable to get your phone in download mode it sure that it will be booted in normal phone mode, repeat the procedure again and again. The download mode is compulsory and this video will help you go through.
httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JwFCKDC7OQ4 - Leave the phone when it gets into download mode and now comeback to your PC and from the Heimdall Suite folder, go to Drivers and in that click on Zadig.exe to install it.
- From the menu option choose Options > List All Accounts.
- From the drop down menu you need to select Samsung USB Composite Device or Gadget Serial.
- As you click on Install Driver a prompt, ignore it by selecting “Install this driver anyways”.
- With that you would be able to run the Heimdall on your PC.
- Untar jt1134’s ClockworkMod Recovery and then launch the Heimdall Frontend.
- Select the extracted recovery.bin in the Recovery section.
- Now you need to power off your phone and then connect the microUSB to your PC end but not to the Samsung Fascinate.
- Now boot your phone in the download mode by holding the Volume Down button the Menu (Centre) button and simultaneously you need to press the Power button to get your phone in download mode and you can do in the same step as mentioned above. And now connect the microUSB cable to the Samsung Fascinate.
- Click on Start on the Heimdall Frontend and a blue transfer bar will appear on the phone showing the kernel being transferred, once it’s done the phone would be rebooted automatically.
The Samsung Fascinate phone now has the ClockworkMod Recovery installed and continues to the next section.
Updating Samsung Fascinate with CyanogenMod 7.1 Firmware
We would be updating this firmware using the ClockworkMod recovery mode and the procedure as follows –
- Download the latest firmware of the CyanogenMod for Samsung Fascinate.
- Now place the downloaded update-cm-7.1.0-Fascinate.zip on the root of your internal memory.
- Boot the phone in the ClockworkMod Recovery and once the phone boots in, use the side volume buttons to move up and down and the selection can be made using the power button.
- First you should select the option of Wipe Data/Factory Reset and then do the Wipe Cache Partition. Once that is done, now select the option of “Install zip from SDcard” and then choose the “Choose zip from SDcard”.
- Now navigate to the path where you have placed the downloaded firmware pack and once you do that the installation would automatically begin.
- As the installation finishes up, select “Go Back” button to go to the main menu and select “Reboot system now” option.
With that you would be ready to experience the joy of above mentioned features.
