Sony Xperia Z1 vs LG G2 Comparison – Almost the Same, but the Z1 Camera Wins

Sony launched their latest best Android device, the Sony Xperia Z1 Honami which took many aspects from its predecessor, the Xperia Z, retaining the 1080p display and some internal specs too, but the camera took a major upgrade. It now includes a whooping 20.7 megapixel camera with the Sony G Lens, and this was one of the best expected features in the device before its announcement. On the other end, the LG G2 was announced few days back, and it came up with a new concept of button placement, where the power and volume toggle buttons are placed on the back panel. Interesting, but how good is the LG G2 against the new Xperia Z1? Let’s see.

Xperia Z1 vs LG G2

With all the specs taken 5, it looks like Sony took the advantage of LG’s delay in making the LG G2 available for the public, and announced the Xperia Z1 at the right time to compete just with this one, because many internal specs are the same. The display of the Xperia Z1 is a 5-inch TFT one, with the 1080p one having a better pixel density, as the 441PPI is due to the 5-inch factor compared to the 5.2-inch Full HD IPS LCD display of the LG G2, which gets a pixel density of 423 PPI. The G2 has an extra layer of protection, with the Scratch-resistance along with the Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection.

Processor wise, it’s the Qualcomm MSM8974 Quad Core processor clocking at a speed of 2.2 GHz, and there’s backing of 2GB of RAM in the Xperia Z1, but the LG G2 is no less, with the Qualcomm MSM8974 Snapdragon 800 Quad-core processor clocking at 2.26 GHz speed, and this too has got a 2GB of RAM for the multitasking. Both the devices have got the same GPU – Adreno 330.

Camera – This is where one can easily vouch for Sony’s Xperia Z1 because of the new G Lens from the company, which has got a 20.7 megapixel Sony Exmor RS and it’s a 1/2.3″ sensor size, while there’s a 13-megapixel camera in the LG G2, which can compete well enough with the other flagship devices of the year such as the Galaxy S4, HTC One etc. but it’s really no match based on the specs, to the Xperia Z1. Still, we haven’t got any test capturing done with both, so won’t really know how good the new lens from Sony is. And it’s not just the sensor and lens we get to mention here, but Sony has opened up a plethora of options and features which can enhance the capturing experience and the quality, with the different shooting modes – Superior Auto, AR Effect, Picture Effect, Sweep Panorama. There’s something called the TimeShift Burst which can make the Sony Xperia Z1’s camera take 61 pictures in 2 seconds.

Other features – As we already mentioned in the title, it’s the camera which is a major difference between the two devices because the battery too is similar in both, having a 3000 mAh battery capacity, and the battery is non-removable in both the devices. Both the Z1 and G2 are coming with the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS out of the box, and given the hardware the Android 4.3 should be available to both after it’s release.
Waterproofing is another factor where the Sony Xperia Z1 would pull in more attraction, because one cannot always protect a device from moisture, rain and water in any way, and Sony’s Xperia series has been known good for now for the waterproof feature.

It could be due to the camera lens and stuff, that the Z1 from Sony has got a heavier body although a little lesser thickness, being 170gm with the 8.5mm thickness but the G2 from LG is 8.9mm thick but weighs 143gm. We’ll do a comparison of the camera captures when the devices are reviewed and then a perfect conclusion can come out, but the G Lens from Sony is something we have seen in the digital cameras and thus the quality is expected to be more than what the LG G2’s 13-megapixel shooter would have.
