The Transphone 1 Pro is the latest hybrid combination of the Android phone and tablet, with the smartphone being a 3.5 inch one, while the tablet device which docks the phone, has a 7 inch screen. Asus has something similar already, with the PadFone 2 but the Transphone 1 Pro has got a pricing of just $240 which could make many users go for it rather than the Asus one, when they just want to try out a hybrid combo.
One of the biggest hassles that you could avoid by taking these hybrid devices is the synchronization, as there is no need to do that at all. The actual functioning is all because of the 3.5-inch phone, and when it gets docked into the back side of the large tablet device, you could use the tab with the data that was in the phone. The only thing that’s not possible with the tablet dock is making calls, as that’s a feature of the phone. Though to company tried to explain things in a unique way, by saying that you get 388% more phone screen real estate, the actual purpose is not that with this device combination.
The larger device is called the Transpad, and you can use several Transpads with a single Transphone, and similarly, a single Transpad can use different Transphones, as there is no need of syncing between them. From a user’s point of view, there are two advantages of using this Transpad/Transphone combination – Firstly, for a price of a single device, you get two and secondly, you don’t need to carry two devices separately as the docking would make it a single device to carry and use.
Specs wise, the Transphone isn’t a killer device really but it has got decent specs including the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS, and the processor is a 1GHz dual-core processor. Both the phone and tablet combined, the weight comes to 486g (114 gm phone + 374 gm tablet). The phone has got a 3.5-inch capacitive multi-touch screen with screen resolution of 960 x 540 pixels, while the tablet has a 7-inch capacitive multi-touch screen with screen resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. There’s an internal memory of 4GB, and the company is selling the other versions of the device too, with different pricing.
The key point behind this combination, as explained by the designer of this is that most of the users don’t use their phone and tablet device at the same time, and they spend a lot in duplicating things, keeping both together and syncing content using different apps and resources. Having something like this combination would remove all the needs for syncing, carrying two devices separately. And the best part, you don’t need to have two 3G SIM cards, as having one can give you the option to browse the web using either the Transphone, or the Transpad.
The Transphone has got a rear camera with 5 megapixel lens having autofocus, while both the devices have got 0.3 megapixel front cameras. The video recording using the 5MP camera is up to 480p quality. The Transphone and Transpad are available for a price of $239.99 right now, and below is the pricing for the various versions:
