How to update Galaxy Nexus I9250 with Lollipop 5.1.1 Update – Guide

Galaxy nexus I9250 Android device can now be updated with the latest version of Lollipop 5.1.1 OS. Unfortunately, Google may not release the 5.1.1 release for this device anymore and all thanks to the custom ROM firmware makers who are constantly working towards developing new firmware updates. So let’s check on how you can update your Galaxy nexus I9250 device with the latest Lollipop 5.1.1 Android OS.

Pre Requisites:

  • Create a backup of all the data in your Nexus device.
  • SMS – Download SMS Backup & Restore app and create the backup. Once done, transfer the backup file to your computer,
    Call Log – Download Call log Backup & Restore app and create the backup. Once done, transfer the backup file to your computer,
    Local Files – Transfer all the data like photos, downloads, music files, videos etc. to your computer.

  • Nexus 7 should be left with the minimum of 60% battery charge for successful firmware installation.
  • Navigate to the path, Settings > About Device and tap multiple times on the build number so as to enable the developer mode till you see the message that which indicates that developer mode is enabled.
  • Navigate to the path Settings > Developer Options to enable the USB debugging mode.
  • Make sure that your device is rooted. Download “Root Checker” app from Google Play Store to check on whether your device is rooted or not. It’s also recommended to have the custom recovery image installed in your device.
  • Assuming that you are done with the above mentioned steps, lets head to the next step where we have listed the procedure to update the device.

    Procedure to Update Galaxy Nexus with Lollipop 5.1.1:

  • Download custom rom firmware package from here to your computer along with Google Apps package.
  • Connect your phone to computer with original USB cable and place these 2 zip files in your device.
  • Disconnect the device from computer and turn off the device so that it can be entered in the bootloader mode. Turn ON the device while pressing the volume up + volume down button along with the power button.
  • In recovery mode, select “install zip from sd card” and then choose the zip file of Firmware Zip Package which you have placed in your phone and then the Google Apps pacakge. Now, once the firmware is updated, select “Go Back” and select “reboot system now”.
  • Please note that it may take more time than normal for rebooting the device.
  • Once the device is updated successfully, phone will be rebooted. Navigate to the path “Settings > About Phone” to check the firmware version which will be mentioned as Lollipop 5.1.1.
