How to Update Galaxy S2 GT I9100G with Official ICS 4.0.3 XXLPQ Firmware

Procedure to Update Galaxy S II I9100G with Official ICS 4.0.3 Firmware:

  • Download the ICS 4.0.3 XXLPQ Update Zip from here to your computer along with the odin. Once downloaded, open Odin in your PC and then turn Off your Galaxy S II I9100G so that it can be then entered in the download mode.
  • Download mode in Galaxy S II GT I9100G can be entered by pressing Volume down Key, Center button, and holding both simultaneously press the Power Button after which a green robot will be shown indicating the Download Mode has been entered.
  • Connect your S II I9100G to the computer while keeping Odin opened, once connected you will see that the ID : COM section is turned Yellow indicating that all the drivers have been installed successfully.

Note: If ID : COM section doesn’t turn Yellow, you need to check with two things which are mentioned below,

  • Install the USB Drivers in your computer &
  • Go to the Path “Settings > Wireless & Network > USB Settings” and ensure that “Samsung KIES” option is ticked before connecting the phone to the computer.
  • Click on “PDA” tab to select “I9100GXXLPQ_I9100GODDLP7_I9100GDDLP5_HOME.tar.md5” and once you select it, click on “Start” to start the process of firmware update.
  • As soon as the device is updated successfully, the device will be restarted. As soon as you see the home screen or language preference setting options, you can then disconnect the device and turn Off the device in the recovery mode.
  • Recovery mode in Samsung Galaxy S II I9100G can be entered by holding the Volume Up button + the Home key button (the middle button). While holding these both buttons, turn ON your device.
  • In recovery mode, select “Wipe data/factory reset” & “Wipe Cache partition” for clearing out all the cache data present in your device.

Note: At any point of time just in case if the process of firmware update gets stopped due to any reason, all you need to do is restart the process from the start by re inserting the battery.

Congrats, you now successfully learnt on how to apply the XXLPQ Galaxy S2 firmware in your device. Do let us know if you face any issues as we will try our level best to sort out the same in the comments section.

    Hi,

i was using my GT-I9100G on wifi when i got the software update notification. At this time battery was around 30%. However i clicked on the software update and after 20 sec or so it asked for a phone reboot. the phone rebooted and thereafter download started displaying. Meanwhile i relaized battery was low so plugged in the charger. Thereafter it started showing phone name written on the screen sor 30 mins or so.. so i tried to reboot it again.. since then it does not open….
please suggest way as it is not getting connected to kies also so that i can try firmware recovery. Any other option i can make it alive again..

    Hi,
My update through ODIN failed. Kindly suggest.
    Enter CS for MD5..
Check MD5.. Do not unplug the cable..
    Please wait..
    I9100GXXLPQ_I9100GODDLP7_I9100GDDLP5_HOME.tar.md5 is valid.
    Checking MD5 finished Sucessfully..
    Leave CS..
    Odin v.3 engine (ID:29)..
    File analysis..
    SetupConnection..
    Complete(Write) operation failed.

I have downloaded the ics firmware package via ota.

However it completed the download successfully but failed in the installation..i then tried deleting the cache partion, and some other data in the recovery mode, thinking that it would enable the installation go properly..
Later i opened the file manager to see where the installation package exists..
    Nd found none..
Does the ics package installer got deleted during recovery process?
I then went to settings>about phone>update firmware and it started from the begining.
Shall i download the installation again from begining or does the installation package exists anywhere, so that i can install once again?

    Hi Neel,

I have tried installing different version of ICS 4.03 to my SGS2 but unfortunately the same problem arises in all as mentioned below:

Screen Lock function and other security options in settings like PIN CODE, PASSWORD even the SLIDE is not working.

When I activate the screen lock and press power button it just closes the screen and then it returns to the home screen without any security patters or slide etc.

Otherside when you keep press the power button it just turned off immediately and vibrated. Then I have to open it again. in 2.3.6 when you keep pressed Power button it gives you out some options like Silent Mode, Data Network mode, Flight Mode and Power Off. In ICS its just switching off…. I have searched many forums and I found this kind of problem in Middle East sets of SGS2.

    Please advice. ASAP.
    Thanks
    zOnY

    Hello!

I’ve successfully updated the device but KIES telling me that it can’t be upgraded with KIES anymore. Another thing to notice that the APP View has not been changed after the update! It’s still the same as Gingerbread. Like we can see the difference with a new Widget page but mine doesn’t have any. Can U give me a feed on this? Did I do anything wrong which is why I’m not seeing the full changes? I did wipe out the Phone Data and then the Cache Partition but don’t know why it still has an old look! Plus, the Dialpad is also in old style.

Another thing: Total RAM is showing 687 MB where previously it showed 0.91 GB. What about it? :O

    Guys,

I do not know much about this update, but is it worth updating to a firmware that is different from the original. I do not see any comment also in this section, where things went well or not. No screen shots of a successful installation or update (with all due respect to this article and the person took time to present it).

I would also love to see and article just in case to rivert the update back to original firmware of Galaxy SII.

    Thanks.

I received notice of this upgrade weeks ago and downloaded it and installed it directly via the Internet onto my ‘locked’ Galaxy S2 GT I9100. First I am wondering why this article was published weeks after the update became available, and, more importantly, should I be anticipating problems since my phone is NOT unlocked and I did not follow the instructions in this article.
