How to Update Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 with Official Lollipop 5.1.1 – Guide

Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 can now be officially updated with Lollipop 5.1.1 Android update. This 4th Generation of android tablet comes with the great specs and to complement that the new lollipop update is just perfect with new refreshing design and faster performance. This is the official update which is available in US as of now and very soon it will be pushed to other countries as well. But just in case if you are the one who hate to wait and would love to update manually, then we will tell you on how to do it.

Pre Requisites:

  • Create a backup of all the data present in your Samsung Galaxy Note Edge using below-mentioned steps;

SMS – Download SMS Backup & Restore app and create the backup. Once done, transfer the backup file to your computer,
Call Log – Download Call log Backup & Restore app and create the backup. Once done, transfer the backup file to your computer,
Local Files – Transfer all the data like photos, downloads, music files, videos etc. to your computer.

  • Battery level in your Galaxy Note Edge should be 50%+ or else device may get turned Off in the midst of firmware update,
  • Make sure that all the required drivers are installed in your computer. Navigate to Settings> Developer Options> check the USB Debugging option.

Procedure to Update Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 with Lollipop 5.1.1 Android OS:

  • Download Odin and Lollipop 5.1.1 Android Update package from here to your computer. Once downloaded, unzip the same in your computer
  • Turn Off your Galaxy Tab 4 so that it can be entered in the Download mode.
  • Download Mode in Galaxy Note Edge can be entered by holding the Volume Down button + the Home key button (the middle button). While holding these both buttons, you need to switch ON your device.
  • Connect your phone to computer with original USB cable to see the ID:COM section turn yellow/green.
  • Open Odin and enable “Auto Reboot” and “F.Reset Time” checkboxes in Odin. Also make sure that “Re-Partition” is enabled.
  • Click on “AP” and then select the tar.md5 file which you got upon extraction.
  • Click on “Start” to start the process of firmware update.
  • Once the firmware is updated successfully, device will reboot. Please note that it will take more than 5 minutes for the device to get updated and the firmware to get applied.
