Samsung Galaxy Y SS5360 users can now breathe easy as we will now see in the due course of this article on how you can apply the Gingerbread 2.3.6 update in your phone. This all new firmware update is dubbed as the 2.3.6 update and this phone out of the device comes with the Gingerbread 2.3.5 firmware. The best part of this update is that to apply this, you need not root your phone. This update is the Official leaked version released by Samsung Electronics in select countries. This version of update is dubbed as DXKJ3.

This update though doesn’t come with the major changes, but comes with many performance enhancements like faster internet capability as the internet browser has been replenished, Android Market now works effortlessly even at slower internet speeds and also the user interface has tweaked a little to give higher battery life than the stock 2.3.5 Gingerbread update.

Disclaimer: At Android Advices, we have made sure in all respects that all the information regarding the firmware update is mentioned correctly in this article. We hold no responsibility in any manner just in case if any damage happens to your Samsung Galaxy Tab which is a very unlikely event if you follow the instructions carefully.

Note: Please note that you need to apply this update only on the Samsung Galaxy Y S5360 and to not any other device.

In the due course of this article we will see on what are the pre firmware update instructions followed by the instructions to apply this firmware update.

Rooting Information:

  • Applying this firmware update won’t root the phone in any manner, so the warranty stays intact.
  • For updating with this firmware, it’s not a compulsion to root your phone,
  • Just in case if you have already rooted the phone, then the rooting access will be revoked once you follow this process of updating the phone. To root the phone again, you will have to again root the phone.

Pre Firmware Upgrade Instructions:

  • Ensure that the device is charged to a minimum of 70% so as to just make sure that the device doesn’t get turned Off in the process of the firmware update.
  • Now, after this you will have to back up the data which is there in the phone memory. Just in case if the data gets corrupted or lost, the same can be restored easily. We have listed some of the instructions with which you can backup and restore the data.

Notes – Backup in the mail so that you can then restore manually
SMS Messages – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts Stored in Phone Memory – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log - Call Log and Restore
Videos, Images, Videos & Files etc.– Copy to internal / External SD Card,
Internet & MMS Settings – Backup all the settings from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names”.

  • Enable the USB debugging from the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB Debugging”. All tools like the Antivirus, Firewall tools as well as the PC Suite should be completely closed or else there is a high probability that these tools may interrupt the process of the rooting process.

So, now let’s proceed to the next page where we will see on what is the procedure to apply the update of DXKJ3 on your Samsung Galaxy Y S5360.

Thanks dude, this update is very easy to install and very useful as well. The internet on my dolphin browser is working faster with this version. Furthermore it helped me to fix a mistake that I did when I was deleting unnecessary apps on my system. It’s turn out that I deleted a important file by mistake, one that command receiving calls. Thanks to this update, all my system was recovered, including the file that I deleted

The only downsize its the restriction of languages available to active. English and Chinese can’t be a option for everybody, but that is not a problem for me. Posting from Brazil, thanks god I know one or two word in English :)

    Again, THANKS !

I used this article earlier to update one another galaxy Y and that worked perfectly without any issue.

    Today Kies worked very well.
Initially couple of times, firmware update was not completed as when device goes to downloading mode, PC driver use to fail to install device. Fixed PC Driver issues and now this updated worked well on my phone using Kies itself.

When i checked Samsung Support they are really very hesitant to talk about this update and suggest not to update this using Kies.
    Now I am on 2.3.6..

    Thanks for all your help..

Update Firmware: Got a message in the bottom corner that the file had been corrupted. I just let the procedure go. It crashed WIN 7.

Very big possibility that downloaded file is BAD or CORRUPTED. Nobody has succeeded to update firmware. VERIFY the file at your end neal.

    • Reply NeaL Pradeep November 21, 2011 at 10:32 am

after installing drivers, you need to update with Odin and not from KIES!

      • Reply Mayur November 23, 2011 at 7:32 pm

        That’s what i m asking….from where I can get these drivers?
These drivers are required in order to upgrade the firmware….

    • Reply Max January 28, 2012 at 2:38 pm

I had the problem before. Know this drivers are for Bluetooth, just turn on the Bluetooth on your phone, it is already installed! Turning on Bluetooth, removed the error using Kies.

had same problem as Prateek above. KJ3 file is corrupt. now I have KJ2 / KJ1 mix on the phone. It’s quite nice. youtube is newer in KJ2 than in KI9 or KI6. still no adobe flash possible. some functions in DDMS DevKit stopped working though in KJ2. watch out for CSC files with branding such as GT-S5360-csc-VDPKJ1.tar . The “VD” means vodafone, starts up in dutch language :-(

  63. Reply Victor November 19, 2011 at 8:27 pm

I’ve just updated it to 2.3.6 via Kies and now from time to time, it notifies me about the memory card being unmounted, then after a few seconds it mounts it back on again, then that problem just goes in circles from time to time.
    How can I fix this?
Is this problem caused by the firmware upgrade?

    • Reply NeaL Pradeep November 23, 2011 at 11:44 am

Since its an update from KIES, you shouldnt have unmounted the sd!

Is there a problem with the ODIN software ? Any fix or other way out Neal ?

        • NeaL Pradeep November 17, 2011 at 10:52 pm

you can apply this update manually!

  75. Reply Prateek November 16, 2011 at 12:56 am

I installed a firmware from tsar3000 website with version S5360XXKI9 2.3.5, and after that…whenever i connect my phone to pc through kies, it shows that your phone s/w is not official
Now i came to know that an official update has been released S5360 DXKJ3 2.3.6 and i downloaded it but it fails every time
Now since I have installed an unofficial firmware update, does that mean i cannot install this official update
PS: dont ask me about drivers and all as u may figure out that i have installed an update already through odin, means everything is fine

    • Reply NeaL Pradeep November 16, 2011 at 12:59 am

yes, since its a beta firmware it won’t be detected in KIES!
YOU CAN INSTALL OFFICIAL BUT FOR THAT YOU NEED TO FIRST GET BACK TO YOUR ORIGINAL VERSION AND THEN YOU CAN UPDATE VIA KIES,
Or else you need to manually apply the update via Odin!

      • Reply Prateek November 16, 2011 at 9:16 am

Yeah…but I cant install this update via odin as it fails every time I try…
Please help me with either option:
provide me the official firmware files which came with the phone DXKI7 (I guess)
or tell me why it is being failed and its solution

        • NeaL Pradeep November 16, 2011 at 8:00 pm

you can try updating with this release!

        • NeaL Pradeep November 16, 2011 at 7:45 pm

FIRMWARE IS THERE IN THE ARTICLE, PLEASE FIND FOR THE ZIP FILE!

The usb ports i use both notebooks are okay in as much as i am able to connect to phone and able to transfer/copy files from the phone to the computer and vice-versa. I have a rooted gt-s5360 with firmware 2.3.5.

Followed the above procedure to the letter, but the result is FAIL! at the leftmost top block, with red background color. The ID:COM block showed a yellow color background with the text 0:[COM23]. Auto Reboot field is checked and F. Reset Time field is also checked.
