Alcatel One Touch Idol 4.7-inch Android Jelly Bean Smartphone Hands-on at CES 2013

Alcatel has launched a range of smartphones and tablet devices at the CES 2013, and these cannot be taken as some low-range entry level devices as they are coming with some excellent features, specs and designs which are capable to compete some of the best smartphones in the market right now. The Alcatel One Touch Idol is a 4.7 inch Android smartphone with the IPS display and the multitouch functionality. This phone is going to be recognized as one of the lightest smartphones in the market, although we don’t have the exact weight of the One Touch phone.

The phone is actually very light and comfortable in the hands, and there are 9 different colors to choose from when the device would be available in the market, and we were pretty much impressed with the design and feel provided by the new Alcatel phones with Android OS. There’s Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean operating system included in the One Touch Idol, and this is not the standard interface that most of the Android smartphones have, but a brushed one with some excellent designed icons and intuitive features to unlock screens and shortcuts to the apps from the lock screen.

The multiple home screens, the notification panel and the app lists too look different and neat. The phone is internally powered by the Dual-core processor that clocks at 1GHz speed, and this cannot be called something of high standards as there are several phones coming out and already in the market with heavy specs and the quad-core processors to support the other stuff. There’s 1GB of RAM included in the phone, and 16GB of Internal memory is present within the phone, of which the end-user can see around 12.3GB of storage available, and one of the disadvantages with the phone is that there is no MicroSD slot for the expanded storage.

There’s an 8 megapixel camera on the rear side supported by the LED flash, and on the front just beside the earpiece is the 2 megapixel camera, which although doesn’t capture great pictures, is capable of recording videos at 720p HD quality. The rear camera capture quality is decent, but the flash doesn’t provide much of the lightning at the dark conditions, so don’t expect much from it when there are no bright surroundings. The phone supports Dual SIM connectivity and there are SIM card slots on the either sides of the screen, and the battery that the phone has got, is 1850 mAh as the person representing Alcatel confirmed with us.

Still, unlike many other phones which are newly coming into the market but having no more than the Android Ice Cream Sandwich OS, this One Touch Idol from Alcatel looked neat with the Jelly Bean. There were quite a few other phones too unveiled by Alcatel but they haven’t shared any details about the availability and pricing of these, but are sure of bringing them into official launch within the end of 1st quarter of 2013.
