One Touch Scribe HD

Alcatel One Touch Scribe HD 5-inch Android Jelly Bean Smartphone Hands-on at CES 2013

Apart from the two 4.7-inch Android phones that Alcatel announced at the CES 2013, there was even a larger device brought into the scene, with the Alcatel One Touch Scribe HD showing itself off with the neat 5-inch display that has a HD resolution at 720p quality. It not just looks good from the external aspects, but also internally with the excellent processor and the other specs. We had a hands-on experience, and although the large screen size the phone doesn’t look heavy or large. The phone looks quite thin, and thanks goodness, Alcatel hasn’t tried to copy any smartphone’s design and kept a standard and simple make for all their new smartphones.

The Scribe HD, modeled the TCL Y900, comes with the Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean operating system, and internally is powered by the Quad-core processor which clocks the speeds of 1.2GHz and we didn’t get any confirmation about the RAM supporting it. Unlike the other two phones unveiled by Alcatel, this Scribe HD has got a MicroSD card slot so that one can expand the storage in the phone to a maximum of 32GB. And using this option should be compulsory because the end user gets a 2GB of Internal storage which shouldn’t be enough in any case.

The rear camera has got an 8 megapixel camera on the rear side, while the video recording of the same is of 720p quality, and the front camera although has a lens of 1.3 megapixel quality, the video is recorded at a good 720p quality. Frankly, we didn’t like the front camera quality in both picture and video recording. The quad core processor should be the best advantage in the One Touch Scribe HD phone, as it would be able to support multitasking with heavy usage, and unlike the several entry level phones, it won’t be seeing itself stuck all the time. The time we spent on the device, we didn’t feel there was any lag in performance when we opened several apps.

The Interface again is a neat and modified one, making it different from the other Android phones as you are welcomed by a neat lock screen and the multiple home screens, while the app pages are quite standard and the same like many other smartphones.

There is no confirmation about the battery life in the phone and the number of hours this phone would run on a full charge, but we would be able to get a better information only when the phone is officially coming out into the market, around the end of 1st quarter of 2013, when the company is planning to launch all their new smartphones after dealing with the various network providers.
If the Scribe HD was having a full 1080p HD display, then it could have been one of the best in the line competing the Sony Xperia Z, Oppo Find 5 and ZTE Nubia Z5. But we got to know that the display has a 720p display, and still would be able to play 1080p videos.
