App to Measure Network Latency & Find Connection Speed on Android

You might be running a slow EDGE connection or a fast 3G/HSDPA connection on your Android phone and the question of how much speed you are getting on your phone or is your operator providing the promised speeds often arises. There are a lot of speedtest apps in the Android Play Store which do a speed test and show the upload and download speeds of the connection you are using on your phone.

The Network Catcher Express app however does much more. Right from calculating the speed at which your internet is to the network latency, NetworkCatcher Express can do emailing of the speeds and much more. It is a free app and can be downloaded by clicking here .

Quick features :

  • Quickly measures and reports on current network conditions
  • Measures packet loss to any addressable domain or IP address
  • Automatically emails a summary of network conditions with specific impairment measurements
  • Generates and emails a dynamic NTX playback file
  • Use the network conditions captured in the NTX file with other Shunra application performance engineering solutions to reliably recreate network conditions in your application test environment.
As soon as the app is opened, a big button in the centre asks the user to choose the destination to begin the test. Once the closest location is chosen, the app begins to test the speed and displays the network latency and the loss in the bottom. Also, the user can see the status bar as it fluctuates and calculates the exact download and upload speeds.

There are three tabs in the bottom out of which the first one is for testing the speeds and latency while the second tab is settings. In the settings option, the user can specify the duration of the network test. This is useful in places where the signal isn’t constant and it might need more time to actually analyse the proper speed of the network.
In our opinion, this app beats the other speed testing apps available on the Android Play Store as it is more accurate with extra details like Network Latency and also allows the user to specify the duration of the network test, which does come in useful at times. The NetworkCatcher Express app can be downloaded from here .
