Better late than never, the AT&T guys have started rolling out updates for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 inch version tablet device, and those users who have been on the Honeycomb OS since months will now finally be able to update their devices to the Android Ice Cream Sandwich OS version. With most of the devices getting the Android Jelly Bean update to their OS, the Galaxy Tab 8.9 users would not be really satisfied but still happy to see that at least they are moving forward from the Honeycomb OS they have right now.
The update has been sent to most of the variants and through most of the carriers for the Galaxy Tab 8.9, but the only one which was pending was the AT&T network, and you will have to work a bit for that, because this is not an Over-the-air update like many others. You will need to update the tab using the Samsung Kies software. This wouldn’t be a hard task though, because connecting the device to the PC and then searching for the update through the Kies is what you need to do, and then it takes no more than 15 minutes for the update to complete.
You should be using a stock tablet for the Kies to recognize and run the update easily, and it shouldn’t be having any custom ROMs or shouldn’t be rooted. Though that doesn’t stop one from getting the update done, if you have the stock one it would be the simplest process for you to update.
The update is surely going to give the users a totally new interface and user experience, with the Honeycomb being very different from the next updates, from the Ice Cream Sandwich, and you would be able to do better multitasking, rich notifications, customizable home screens and the widgets which can be resized. For the Honeycomb users, here’s what they can expect when they update from the Android 3.2 to Android 4.0.4 version:
- Home screens – Many things can be added to the home screen, including the applications, widgets and the wallpapers.
- Email accounts which were added as the Samsung premium accounts or as a Social hub will be removed.
- The contacts and the contact groups will remain as they are, but the groups will not longer have those contacts.
- The sorting or apps will be gone, but the downloaded applications will not be deleted.
- Paired bluetooth devices will be removed during the reset.
Go on, check for the update in the Samsung Kies after you connect the tab to your PC.
