Good times are here for the proud owners of DROID RAZR HD and RAZR MAXX HD on Verizon as an all new fresh update will soon hit the devices which is dubbed as the build 0.7.2 and ropes in the Google Security Patch. This update has been pushed by Motorola so as to fix the issues which users were facing when opening the Signed emails in their Microsoft Exchange account. This update though doesn’t come with any major changes or with major list of change log as the update size is mere 6MB. So, over a period of this article we will be helping you out on how you can apply this update once the update hits your device.As of now there is no exact timeline on by when this update will be rolled out officially, but this update is not far from being rolled out.
Before proceeding, make sure that you have created a backup of all your data with the help of below mentioned steps manually with the help of below mentioned steps. You can also alternatively backup all your data with the help of Motorola PC Suite too.
SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log – Call Log and Restore
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names”
So assuming that you are done with all the above steps, you can now proceed to the next step where we have summed up a detailed procedure on how to apply this firmware update.
Procedure to Update DROID RAZR HD and RAZR MAXX HD with 0.7.2 Firmware Update:
- So basically to start with the update process of your DROID RAZR HD and RAZR MAXX HD, we have listed two methods which are via OTA (Over the Air) user initiated and OTA (Over the Air) server initiated. It will take approximately 3-5 minutes to download the software, depending on network conditions.
OTA (Over the Air) user initiated:
- Head over to the home screen and tap the Menu Key > tap Settings > About phone > System updates > Download for checking the updates and downloading the same.
- As soon as the firmware is downloaded, tap on the option of “Install Now” and then the device will be powered Off and will indicate the progress bar which will once the installation is completed the device will be powered off and will be restarted.
Please note that device may take longer time than expected for powering the device as it has to finalize all the apps. You will get a confirmation on the screen that your install was successful, now all you need to do is to just tap on OK.
OTA (Over the Air) server initiated
- If the update is server initiated, you will get a pop up indicating that the firmware update has hit the device wherein you need to tap on the option of “Download” and once the update is downloaded, tap on the option of “install” for applying the update.
- Once the update is successfully installed, the device will be rebooted automatically and once the device shows up the home screen, you will get the screen prompt that the update has been successfully applied. To check on whether the firmware is successfully applied or not, head over to the path “Settings > About Phone” wherein you will find the current version build as 0.7.2.
