How to Get Face Unlock on Nexus S Mobile

Nexus S LogoNexus S users were not facilitated with the Face Unlock feature in the official AOSP builds which was released in 2011. But all thanks to the forums which are here with a work around after which you will be able to make use of the face unlock feature in your device. The face unlock feature which we will be checking out is for all the users of GSM Nexus S device and not for any other device. This article will only help the users who are on the rooted ICS firmware builds. Check the Firmware before you proceed. You can find out the current firmware from the path “Settings > About Phone > Firmware Version” where it will show the current firmware as Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.0.

So, let’s get started with the procedure to install the Face unlock feature in your Nexus S.

Procedure to Install Face Unlock Feature in Galaxy Nexus:

  • Before proceeding, if your device is not rooted then you need to root the Nexus S. Without rooting you should not proceed.
  • Once the device is rooted, you now need to download the Face Unlock Package from here to your computer and connect your phone to the computer to copy this downloaded Zip file in your SD Card. Don’t place the zip file deep into the sub folders as it won’t detect he same.
  • After this you need to remove the USB cable and turn off the phone so as to enter the device in the recovery mode. The recovery mode in the Samsung Nexus S can be entered by “Pressing and holding Volume Up key and then press Power Button”.

  • Once you enter into the recovery mode, you will then need to select the option “install zip from sd card” after which you will see a list of files which are there in your phone. Select the file which you have placed in the phone.
  • Just in case if you land up in the recovery mode screen, you need to select the option of “++++ Go back ++++”. In the recovery mode, select the options of “Wipe data/factory reset”, “Wipe Cache partition” after which select the option of “reboot system now” as this will clear out all the data which is there in the cache.
