The Gionee Elife E6, since it’s launch, hasn’t received a single firmware update and it has been there on the Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean OS, and the interface too is the same – the Amigo Interface. But finally, there’s an OTA update hitting the devices now to the Elife E6, and it’s quite a major update with several changes, upgrades and addition of features.
The OTA update includes the following changes, as given in the change log when you check for the update.
- Added the dynamic and audible weather updates, to the static one present right now
- Game Lobby updated, and there is an increase in accuracy of search engine and optimized search interface
- GioneeXender, the tool which helps in file sharing, has been optimized for a better performance and there is an improved linking success rate
- V9 search app updated stability
- UC Browser loading time optimized
- New online wallpapers and new UI interface design
- New video player with floating window functionality
- BBM, WeChat and WPS added
To check for the update, you will need to go to one of the two options:
1. Search for the app named System update in the list of applications and open it
2. Go to Settings > All settings > About > Software update (this would take you to the System update app)
The updating of the firmware is not the same that you would see on the other smartphones, because here you will have to trigger the update when the phone restarts and starts in the recovery mode. Once you download the update file from the Software update section, you will see the file in the file system on the root folder. When the phone restarts, you will need to guide the phone to that particular file and then it would update the device firmware to the latest one.
Although this isn’t a major update that you might be expecting ever since the KitKat OS version was announced, but still there are a lot of feature additions and bug fixes which are quite important.
