All-Metal Gionee Marathon M5 Mini with 4000mAh Battery Goes Official in Nigeria

The global smartphone manufacturer, Gionee has today announced yet another variant of the Marathon M5 smartphone called as Gionee Marathon M5 Mini in Nigeria. The new smartphone is almost similar to the Gionee Marathon M5 Lite that launched in India earlier this month. The only major difference is the Marathon M5 Mini features lower amount of RAM and storage space. While there is no word on pricing from the company, the smartphone will be available from brick-and-mortar stores in the country as well as other online platforms like Jumia, Konga and Yudala.

Commenting on the launch, Marketing Director, Gionee Nigeria, Mr. Somoye Habeeb, said, “Gionee focuses on innovation, efficiency and affordability in ways that other brands don’t. Having received a warm reception from the Nigerian market when we introduced the Gionee M5 a few months ago, Gionee is following up with the M5 Mini. The Gionee M5 Mini as the name implies is a compact version of the M5. It is just as effective and stylish, but more affordable. It can be considered a sequel to the highly durable M5, and is the latest phone to be released in Nigeria.”

Coming to the specifications part, the Marathon M5 Mini features a 5-inch (1280×720 pixels) HD IPS display offering 294ppi as pixel density and 2.5D arc glass laid on top. Under the hood, it packs MediaTek MT6580 quad-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz paired with Mali-400 GPU and 2GB of RAM. The smartphone supports dual sim dual standby and runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop based Amigo UI 3.1 out of the box.

It comes with 16GB of built-in storage that can be further expanded upto 128GB via microSD card slot. On the camera front, the device sports an 8MP autofocus rear camera with LED flash and a 5MP front-facing camera for video calling and selfie images. These are the same set of cameras seen on the Marathon M5 Lite. It comes with basic connectivity options like 2G/3G, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS/A-GPS and microUSB 2.0 port with OTG support. The only downside is it lacks 4G-LTE support.

The handset powers a 4000mAh battery that has the energy to last upto 18 hours of talk time, 22 hours of music play and 14 days in standby mode. The device also supports quick charging and just 10 minutes of charge can offer upto 1 hour 30 minutes of talk time and can last upto 2 days in standby mode. The smartphone also supports reverse charging and can charge other devices with the provided OTG support. The Marathon M5 Mini sports premium looks with all-metal unibody design measuring 143.5 x 71 x 9.6 mm in dimensions. Stay tuned for more updates about the pricing of the smartphone.
