Update: Gionee launched the Gionee ELife S5.1, titled as the world’s thinnest smartphone in November,last year.
This device has also featured itself into the Guinness book of World Records for being the thinnest smartphone till date. The previous record was also held by Gionee’s ELife S5.5 smartphone that 5.5 mm thick and the latest devices device will be just 5.15 mm thick.
Earlier:We know that Gionee Elife S5.5 is the thinnest smartphone that is available in the world now at 5.5mm. Now, the same company is going to come with another device that will be thinner than this. The device has already been certified by China with a codename GN9005 that measures 5.0 mm making just 0.2 inches in thickness. The Gionee S5.5 was a decent device that was easy to hold in one hand and operate it because of its light weight and thickness. Not only that, Gionee also gave the device an elegant design giving it a premium look. Because of its thinness the device is very tightly built and due to this the device was getting heated up frequently whenever there was a heavy performance.
Hope Gionee has noted this point and will come out with some solution for it. According to the certifications the device will be 0.5 mm thinner than the Elife S5.5 making the thinnest smart phone in the world till date. Coming to the specifications of the device the device will be a entry level device with a 4.8 inch display that is 0.2 inch lesser than the Elife S5.5 that is at 5.0 inches. Even the resolutions have also been cut down from 1080p to 720p but the AMOLED screen has been retained. The device will be powered with an un-known 1.2 GHz quad core processor where as the Elife S5.5 featured an octa core processor that was clocking at 1.7 GHz.
There is an 8 MP camera on the rear instead of the 13 MP camera and the front camera is a 5 MP sensor, same as we found on the Elife S5.5. Moreover there will be 1 GB of RAM memory and 16 GB of on-board memory. These are not great specification considering that devices now come with 3 GB of RAM. The device will come with Android Jelly Bean OS out of the box and will be powered with 2050 mAh battery on the back.
The GN9005 device will be an entry level device considering all its specifications. We do not have any word on the launch or pricing of the device till now and we will be informing you as soon as we get them.
