Google’s Daydream is a Virtual Reality platform which is an interactive mode to help the users communicate with the real world in a transparent way so that the users can respond to things quickly and precisely. It is the successor of Google Cardboard. Virtual Reality first came to the world as a science fiction before the 1950’s, and since then it was under development stage to make it happen. And recently it started picking up as the technology evolves around it. We don’t just get to see VR Headsets also known as “Head-mounted Display” these days, we also see Gaming Control devices, 360-degree video cameras, and VR-ready contents to use. These days Games are being developed to support VR, like Pokemon. And VR Headsets are being used to train medical students to operate surgeries. It is also used in the simulators to train people.
Google is working on the Daydream VR Project as we know, and it might come up with a VR Headset of its own, could be named “Nexus VR.” And we expect this VR Headset to go with better lenses and sensors than the current existing VR Headsets. We also expect the final build of Android N coming up with VR mode option as it expects to see future Android devices which can power the VR Daydream platform. The Daydream team at Google I/O 2016 event stated that there is no phone which is sturdy enough to support the new VR platform.
As per the report, Google confirmed few companies which will be producing Daydream-ready phones. They are Samsung, Alcatel, Asus, HTC, LG, Samsung, Xiaomi and ZTE. These companies will also be able to produce their own VR Headsets that fit the Daydream platform. And ZTE has already launched the Daydream compatible Axon 7 along with ZTE VR, but it lacks the Android N and Google’s VR Software update to become the first phone to experience Daydream.
So we just need a Daydream certified phone which should have the VR mode in the setting and a compatible VR Headset to experience the Google’s Daydream. As this technology is still new and under development, personally I’d prefer to wait at least a year to experience the near-perfect VR experience. What would you do?
Google is also working on its contents to make its apps compatible with the Daydream VR mode. To name a few, they are YouTube, Street View, Google Photos. And it is also collaborating with Netflix, Ubisoft and Electronic Arts to make their apps Daydream-ready. So it is apparent that more and more apps will now be made to support VR devices to take Virtual Reality to the next level. Stay tuned for more updates on this.
