HP is back in the mobile competition, with the focus being on the tablet devices as it has just announced the HP Slate 7 tablet device with a very competitive pricing of $169.99, and as of now it has taken the advantage of the event for the announcement and the sale won’t happen right away, as we need to wait till this April for the device to be shipped into the International market.
As the name suggests, the Slate 7 is a 7-inch Android tablet that runs on the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS, and the build is totally rubbery giving it a better feel than holding several other Android tablets. Internally, there is a Dual-core Cortex A9 chip which clocks the speed of 1.6 GHz, while the FFS+ LCD touchscreen display having a screen resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. HP claims that the display would produce excellent wide viewing angles, while performing good in low light too.
There’s 1GB of RAM, 8B of SSD which would help in faster transfer of files, while the expansion of storage is possible through MicroSD card, and the Slate 7 has got two cameras – a 3-megapixel rear camera that has the position on the top left just like in the Apple iPad, while the front facing camera is of VGA quality, at the center top in portrait view.
The stereo speakers included in this tablet device is all powered by the Beats Audio for some extra boom, and the thickness after packing all this is around 10.7mm, which can nowhere be called a thin tablet device. According to HP, the battery backup in the Slate 7 would be able to provide a video playback continuously for five hours on a single charge, but we do not know any specs based details.
HP has been boasting about the ePrint feature of theirs, which helps in printing wirelessly from the tablet device to any of the compatible HP printers, but the company has got it very much integrated so that it becomes useful through any of the apps installed in the Slate. There is a stock Android 4.1 Jelly Bean included in it, but HP has just modified it to include the features like ePrint, and make the Beats Audio function well with any application.
Although not really competitive with the specs, HP will surely keep the users interested with the pricing at $169 where you get to see similar specs from not-so-popular companies, or higher priced tablets from well-known brands, with an exception of the Nexus 7 tablet from Asus which has better specs, and priced moderately high.
