Procedure to update HTC Desire S with Cyanogen MOD Gingerbread 2.3.7 Firmware:
Step 1: Get S OFF Access & Install Custom Recovery
- First up you need to follow the instructions which are mentioned below, which are nothing but the instructions with which the S Off can be achieved and also the device can be successfully installed with the Clock Work Mod custom recovery mode. Please note that you also will have to follow the list of pre requisites which are mentioned below.
- Now, in your phone you need to enable the USB Debugging Mode. The USB Debugging can be enabled from the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB Debugging”. After this you will also have to disable the fast boot which can be done from the path “Settings > Power > Fast boot”. Also, you need to install the HTC Sync Beta drivers.
- Visit the HTC Beta generator Key site from where you will find an option of “Download for Windows” after which a file will be prompted for downloading, download the same and after that you will see a notification named “Beta Key” wherein you need to fill in the details like your operating system, your device name, HBOOT Version and also the serial number of the phone. So, as soon as all the details are entered, you will now have to click on the “Generate key” as shown in the below image. - Now connect the device to the computer using the USB cable which you got at the time of purchase. Open the revolutionary beta application which you downloaded from the above link to enter the correct beta key which you have got in the above process.
So, that’s it the custom recovery image gets installed and also the S Off is achieved easily. Please note that whole of this process will take around 10 – 15 minutes, it’s recommended to not to interrupt the process of the rooting process or else it may even brick the phone. Just in case if the firmware update process is not done successfully then you need to follow the instructions from the start.
Step 2: Procedure to install Cyanogen MOD 7.1 Gingerbread 2.3.7:
- Before proceeding you will have to now download the Cyanogen MOD 2.3.7 for Desire S Zip Package from here along with the latest version of Google Apps Zip file in your computer. Once you download these both, connect the Desire S phone with the computer using the USB cable which you got at the time of purchase.
- Once the phone is connected, you will have to copy these two zip files as it is without modifying or renaming the file to your phone. Ensure that you are not placing the file deep into any sub folders or else the file won’t be able to detect.
- After this you will have to turn off the phone so that you can then enter into the recovery mode. The recovery mode can be entered by pressing the Volume down button and then Power ON the device. Once you get into the recovery mode, use the Side volume keys to select the option of “Backup and Restore” to backup the current installed ROM on your HTC Desire S Smartphone.
- After this you will also need to select the option of “Clear Storage” as shown in the above screen capture. Once you are done with this, select “install Zip from sd card” and select the zip file of Cyanogen Mod 7.1 for Desire S which you have placed in the phone first and then the zip file of the Google Apps.
- As soon as the process get completed, the device will either get restarted or you will land up again on the recovery mode page. Just in case if you land up again in the recovery mode then you will have to select “++++Go Back ++++” to get back to the main menu and then choose the option of “Reboot System now” option after which the phone will be rebooted and you will be on the Gingerbread 2.3.7 powered by the Cyanogen Mod.
