HTC Desire S – Steps to Install Official Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread Firmware

Pre Requisite instructions:

  • In the due course of this article, all the data which is present in the phone will be lost, so its very important to ensure that you have created the backup of all the data so that the same can be restored back just in case if any of the data is lost. For your simplicity we have mentioned below some of the tips along with the links with which you can easily backup and restore the data.

SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
ContactsSync with the Gmail application,
Call Log – Call Log and Restore
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names

  • Please note that you will have to ensure that you have charged your phone with the minimum of 60% plus so as to just ensure that the phone doesn’t get turned off in the process of the firmware update and also most importantly the higher the phone is charged, the better will be the battery performance after the firmware update as you will not be requiring to do the battery re calibration if you proceed with 100% charge.
  • Just in case if you are in the custom ROM already, then you need to first get into the recovery mode and then you will have to clear all the data which is there in the phone. To enter into the recovery mode, you will have to press the volume Down Key and simultaneously you need to press the Power button after that the phone will enter into the recovery mode. Please note that, you first need to turn Off the device and then you will have to get into the recovery mode.

Recovery Mode Procedure

  • In recovery mode you will see a screen where in you will have to press the Volume down Key and then you will have to choose the option of “Clear Storage”. The selection can be made by pressing the power button.

  • Now, after this to press the Volume Down key to “Clear Storage” and then release the Power button. So, as soon as you confirm the same by selecting this option, you will have to again press the “Volume Up” key for YES to confirm the selection which will clear off all the cache files of that particular custom firmware. So, after this you need to Root the phone by following the simple to understand procedure which is mentioned below.

Procedure to Root HTC Desire S Android Phone:

  • First up you will have to download the Revolutionary Rooting Zip File in your computer and then after this you will have to next connect your phone with the computer using the USB cable to copy this downloaded file without renaming to your phone and then you will have to disconnect the USB cable after finish coping the file into your phone.
  • First up you need to enter into the recovery mode in your phone which can be done by first turning Off the phone and then pressing the Volume Down Key and simultaneously you need to press the Power button. After this in the recovery mode, you need to choose the option of “install from sdcard/zip file” and then choose the file which you have copied into your phone.

  • As soon as you select this file, the phone will be rooted successfully and ten you will have to select the option of “Reboot phone”. Now, once the phone gets rebooted you will see that a super user icon will be seen in the list of applications which will confirm the rooting. Just in case if you are unable to see the Super user icon then you will have to again follow the procedure to root the phone.
