HTC on Tuesday launched the much-hyped HTC One A9 smartphone that looks similar to the Apple’s iPhone. The HTC One A9 is the first non-Nexus device to run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box and is priced at $399.99 (Rs. 26,000 approx). The device is now up for pre-order in the United States via company’s official website and will go on sale starting November.
Commenting on the launch, Cher Wang, chairwoman and CEO, HTC said, “HTC is a smartphone pioneer, having delivered the first Android smartphone, the first Windows smartphone, the first 4G smartphone, and the first all-metal smartphone. Today [Tuesday] we’re taking that heritage of innovation to the next level, unveiling a phone that stands apart in a market increasingly dominated by a company that controls every aspect of your phone. The HTC One A9 breaks from this trend by offering an incredible design, fantastic performance, cutting-edge software features and the freedom to take full control of your smartphone experience.”
Coming to its specifications, the HTC One A9 flaunts a 5-inch (1080×1920 pixels) Full-HD display with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection on top of it. The smartphone comes powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 64-bit octa-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz. The device will be available in two variants- one with 2GB RAM, 16GB built-in storage while the other with 3GB RAM, 32GB built-in storage and both supporting microSD card slot for expansion upto 2TB.
On the camera cordon, it sports a 13MP rear camera with sapphire cover lens, PDAF, f/2.0 aperture, autofocus, OIS, BSI sensor, LED flash & RAW support. On the front, there is a 4MP Ultra-Pixel shooter for clicking perfect selfies. Connectivity options on the device include 4G-LTE, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, microUSB, GPS/A-GPS. The smartphone comes powered by a 2150mAh battery and as earlier said runs on the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow based HTC Sense UI out of the box.
The highlight of the smartphone is the all-metal body and the design that highly resembles the Apple’s iPhone 6. There is also a fingerprint scanner embedded on the physical home button placed on the front side of the device. The other interesting features are less bloatware, faster software updates ( HTC claimed that the new One A9 smartphone will receive every Google updates within 15 days of Nexus devices).
