It might just happen that someday you receive a large number of calls and you had to make large number of deliberate calls then what is it that can help you to keep your phone alive for the day? Well, the answer is present right there in the phone software itself. A setting named battery manager Tool will help you manage battery life by selecting the presets or you can customize the reasources as per your requirements. Battery manager is a very handy tool and is very useful. Lets discuss some more topics that can simply help you to increase the working hours on your Motorola XPRT. Some important topics that will be covered are as follows:

  • Display.
  • Connectivity and Location settings.
  • Sync settings.
  • Applications settings.
  • Notification settings.
  • Battery Manager.
  • Multimedia.
  • Battery charging methods and habits.

Display:
Motorola XPRT features a display of 3.1 inches with resolution of 320 x 480 pixels and is quiet bright and clear. The display brightness is normally the most basic reason why any phone runs out of battery. If display brightness is set from LOW to MEDIUM range then it will help a lot in saving battry life and still it will be readable. The display brightness settings can be altered through the battery manager if we select for customization.

Display timeout time must be set from 15 seconds to 20 seconds and not more than that. Timeout time of 15 seconds is recommended but 20 seconds is what observed as the most desirable timeout time.

Connectivity and Location settings:
Motorola XPRT supports multiple networks like GSM, CDMA and HSDPA and power requirement for each network can vary sustantially thus talktime for each network will be different irrespective of the settings.

The Wi – Fi b / g / n support can give you high speed networking options but make sure that you turn OFF the Wi – Fi capabilities as soon as the requirement is finished. Keep the Wi – Fi turned OFF in places where there is no Wi – Fi connectivity available. If you ever wanted to connect to any Wi – Fi network then make sure that you are subscribed with the service and / or the network must be a WEP / WPA / WPA2 secured network, try avoiding connection with the OPEN networks as sometimes the bandwidth is limited and a lot of power is wasted in acquiring the bandwidth.

The Bluetooth 2.1 connectivity option is required for data transfer of important documents or multimedia files to and from the Motorola XPRT. Any bluetooth device can be coonected with the Motorola XPRT. Bluetooth can also be used to stream audio or video, but streaming of any kind always use up a lot of battery. The Motorola XPRT also supports many Bluetooth profiles like OPP, A2DP, AVRCP, HFP, HID, HSP and PBAP. Make sure you turn OFF the Bluetooth connectivity as soon as you finish with the operation.

Location settings can be managed using the network provided values or by GPS. The network provided values are a little in accurate as compared to the GPS values. But GPS uses a lot of battery, so for long working hours network provided location is preferred. GPS requires to acheive a Line of Sight with the GPS satellites, therefor GPS must only be used when you are outdoors.

Mobile data traffic must be turned OFF when not required. Normally on GSM networks mobile data traffic can be turned OFF if we do not wish to hook up on the internet.

Sync settings:
Sync settings allow you to sync your calendars, contacts, emails, etc. Sometimes certain accounts ask for synchronisation but they are not actually needed, for this reason you may need to limit the sync settings to certain apps. Make sure of what you are synchronising and with whom? This will help you to filter and limit apps. Auto sync can be turned ON or OFF, turn ON auto sync only once a day for an hour, but if you need to get continuous updates then you may just need to keep it turned ON; this will keep the battery busy and may reduce the working hours.

Application settings:
Irrespective of the Auto sync settings, certain applications check for updates in the background and are always running. These applications which run in the background must be controlled in order to increase working hours, for this reason you may need to go to manage settings found under application settings to control those applications. The applications can be force closed depending on its requirement. Make sure you stop the correct application.

Notification settings:
Notification settings refer to incoming sound settings and vibrating alerts. Always keep vibrating settings turned OFF as it is not that required. Ring tone volume must be set to as low as possible. Ring tone must not be long enough and using default ringtones is recommended. The default ring tones are normally short.

Battery Manager:
nattery Manager is the best tool that comes with this application which allows you to set the preset values to save the battery and it also allows you to set customized values. Battery manager can be found under settings. There are three presets and they are:

  • Maximum battery saver mode:Here the battery is saved with the high battery saving methods like low display brightness, applications running, etc. This is the best option in order to save battery using the Battery manager.
  • Night time saver:This mode is actually a night mode and it dims the display brightness some other settings that will make optimal use of the phone at the night time.
  • Performance mode:This mode is the normal operation mode and no battery saving is performed. This mode must be avoided.

The custom battery saver mode offers you some options that you can set in order to save battery.

Multimedia:
Motorola XPRT comes with a camera of 5 Mega pixels with LED flash, flash must be avoided in daylight. Some people have wrong perception that the pictures are more clear with flash but it is only true when you are shooting in low light conditions. Only use flash when there is no ample amount of light available in the surroundings. Media playback volume must necer be kept high as this is not good for the human ear as well as for the battery life, listen to media at moderate volumes.

Battery charging methods and habits:
Battery charging must be carried out using the provided charger. USB charging must be avoided in order to save battery damage. We usually have different habits of charging battery, like charging while talking on the phone, USB charging while working on a workstaion, charging while data transfer, charging while using Wi – Fi hot spot, etc make sure that you avoid all these habits and follow only one habit and that is to charge the battery fully only once in a day.
