If the operating conditions can be tweaked in order to make the battery last longer. The 1 GHz processor simply will tempt us to work more and enjoy more but then we can just manage to work more and save more battery, simply follow the steps given.

The most battery draining components of Samsung Epic 4G are Wi – Fi b/g/n support, Bluetooth 2.1 support, aGPS support, LED flash, Touch focus, Display brightness, Display timeout time, Smile detection, Accelerometer, SYNC, Keyboard back light and Android OS. The following steps will simply help you in managing your phones battery usage appropriately.

  • Wi – Fi b/g/n support is one reason why people need to be around a phone charging point, well after the usage of the Wi – Fi make sure that the Wi – Fi capability is turned OFF to save battery for more important events. Wi – Fi Hotspot facility must be only used when there are no options left for the recipient device, Wi – Fi Hotspot uses most power.
  • Bluetooth 2.1 support will definitely help you stream music and videos from one device to another but then make sure you turn OFF the Bluetooth connectivity as soon as the requirement is met. A lot of power is used while streaming and using Bluetooth headphones.
  • GPS capability must be turned ON only when you are out of your shelter as GPS requires an unblocked line of sight, instead network provided location can be used which are normally accurate up to 1000 meters. If using aGPS then make sure you turn the capability OFF.
  • The 5 MP camera is awesome but the LED flash light must be used only when there is just not enough light to focus the object similarly the touch focus must be used only when you are having trouble focusing the object with auto focus. The touch focus takes input when you touch the screen and this is why it uses more battery. Smile detection requires resources like CPU and the memory so it is recommended that smile detection must not be extensively used.
  • Display brightness must be set to low or medium as these settings are just adequate for comfortable viewing of the screen. The screen if set to low the phone will adjust the brightness automatically according to the light present in the surroundings. The display time out time must be set from 10 seconds to 15 seconds.
  • Accelerometer is used to turn the display orientation with the change in phone orientation. Usage of this feature does use up battery and thus must not be used extensively. Normally the orientation can be changed for particular applications like web browser from the application settings itself thus there is no need to activate this setting globally.
  • SYNC functions allow us to be connected to the internet day and night thus we get our required updates regularly, but then we can use this feature appropriately by turning it OFF during network outages and when you are not much keen on the Facebook notifications and email notifications.
  • Keyboard back light time out time must be set equal to the display time out time, for this go to Settings / Sound and Display / Keyboard Timeout, then select ‘same as screen time out’.
  •  Android OS allows applications and services to run in background thus more resources are used, usage of resources is directly proportional to usage of more battery. Use task killer programs like Advanced task killer which can be downloaded from Android Market.

Settings like display brightness, GPS, SYNC, Wi – Fi, Bluetooth can be managed using power widget. This guide will definitely help you save battery on your Samsung Epic 4G for more appropriate events.
