How to Install Sony Bravia Xplod XE Custom ROM on Samsung Epic 4G Touch Android Phone

Essential Pre Requisites:

  • Backup all your data present in the phone so as to ensure that just in case if the data gets erased or corrupted, the same can be easily restored with the help of below mentioned steps. Don’t backup the data using the PC Suite as custom firmwares are not supported with the PC Suites.

SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log – Call Log and Restore
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names

  • Assuming that you have created a backup of all your data, you can now proceed to charge your phone with the minimum level of 70% so as to ensure that the phone doesn’t get turned Off in the middle of firmware update.
  • Ensure that you have disabled all the Security SuitesFirewall tools and also the KIES PC Suite as these tools tend to interrupt the process of firmware update. Also, additionally enable the USB Debugging from the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging”.
  • Last but not the least, your device should be rooted one before applying this update. In your application list there should be Super user app as well as CWM app.

Procedure to Update Sony Bravia Engine Powered Custom ROM for Epic 4G Touch:

  • Download Sony Bravia Engine Powered Custom ROM Zip file from here to your computer and then connect your phone to the computer and copy this zip file in your Phone memory.
  • One the file is copied, disconnect the same from computer and turn Off your phone to enter the device in the recovery mode.
  • The recovery mode can be entered by pressing  Volume UP Key + OK button, and holding both simultaneously press the Power Button. You can also refer to the below mentioned video to know more on how to enter into the recovery mode.

  • In recovery mode, select “install zip from sd card” > “choose zip from sd card” after which select the Sony Bravia Custom ROM Zip file after which the process of update will be started.
  • Once the device is updated, you will be again landing back to the recovery mode screen. In recovery mode screen, select “++++ Go Back ++++” and then choose “reboot system now” for rebooting the device in Sony Bravia Engine Powered Custom ROM.
  • Once the phone turns ON, you need to now again turn Off so that you can then turn ON the phone in the recovery mode. The recovery mode can be entered by pressing  Volume UP Key + OK button, and holding both simultaneously press the Power Button.

  • In recovery mode, select Wipe data/factory reset and also you need to select Wipe Cache partition and then reboot your device by selecting reboot system now option. If the device boots normally then again you need to try the same to enter into the recovery mode.

Note: The device may take longer than expected time to boot the device and to show up the home screen as it’s the first reboot after the firmware update. Additionally, you can also apply this custom ROM firmware with the help of Clock Work mod recovery process which too is one of the simplest process to apply these custom ROMs.
