If you are looking for something that is good at performance, packs in everything good but are okay if it’s not the standard Android OS that runs in the device, the Kindle Fire HDX 7″ tablet is an excellent choice, as it is available for sale from today on Amazon, and the basic 16GB Wi-Fi tablet costs you $229. Although there is a 8.9-inch tablet too but that isn’t shipping for now. Amazon calls it the HDX display, as the resolution is more than the standard HD, with the 1920 x 1200 pixels resolution with the high pixel density of 323 ppi, which is great enough for tablet devices.
To add to the excellent screen, the Kindle Fire HDX has got in a Qualcomm Snapdagon 800 processor which clocks at 2.2 GHz, and there is 2GB of RAM for the multitasking. The graphics would be well run by the Adreno 330 GPU. The Kindle Fire HDX is said to boast a 11-hour battery life, and the company has included a Mayday button, which is an exclusive source for the on-device tech support where connecting to the support is free and one can connect anytime to get the support from the Amazon team. There’s a front facing HD camera for the video calling and 720p recording.
Now, talking about the OS which we already said is not a fully Android-based one, the HDX 7″ tablet would be running the Fire OS 3.0 (Mojito), which starts with the Android OS and then adds the Amazon cloud service and a content-forward user interface which doesn’t look any bad. There are some features like the Second screen, email app enhanced for a better experience, carousel and grid views and a lot more, but you should not expect this to have a normal Android interface. The battery life looks impressive for those who travel a lot. When some components are not needed and not being used, the tablet powers them down to increase the battery life, which could go to 17 hours.
