Lava today unveiled a new smartphone in its Iris series, Lava Iris Atom 2 is a budget smartphone price at RS.4,949. The features of this device are similar to the recently launched Iris X1 Atom S, a slightly downgraded version with a 4-inch display, 1GHz quad-core processor powered by a 1400mAh battery. Though the pricing of the device is on the lower side, the local manufacturer missed few essential features like 4G LTE and GPS that are almost available in all the smartphones launched recently in that price range.
Iris Atom 2 comes with 4.5-inch FWVGA (854×480) TFT display with a pixel density of 217ppi. The device comes with a 1.3GHz quad-core processor coupled with 512MB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage out of which the only 5.13GB will be available for the end user. And that can be expandable to 32GB via an external microSD card.
The competitors of the Iris atom 2 offers 1GB RAM and 16GB internal that are double to that of this device. It comes with a 1,750mAh Li-ion battery that provides 15 hours 50 minutes of talk time and lasting up to 221 hours of standby. The battery capacity of the Iris Atom 2 is less compared to its competitors who offer better battery life. The device runs on Android 4.4 KitKat with a featured upgrade to Android 5.0 Lollipop.
Coming to the camera of this smartphone, it features a 5MP rear camera with LED flash and a VGA 0.3MP camera in the front. It also offers different camera modes Panorama and HDR. The camera lovers will feel this as a huge letdown. The developers must have focused on this and should have at least included an 8MP rear camera and 2MP front facing lens on this device. As the competitors offers a better camera in the same price group.
It is a dual-SIM device, and the connectivity includes 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1 and a microUSB port. It also includes ‘Smart Gesture Control’ features for quick access to apps. The smartphone measures 134 x 66 x 9.15 weighing around 130 grams.
The device will be available in two colors – White and Black and can be purchased both online and offline. The device can be purchased online exclusively through Flipkart, and offline purchasing through selected mobiles stores.
With the smaller price range the local manufacturers will eye on the market share of the basic customers, and cannot hold bigger shares competing in the market. As there are some better devices available in the market like, Phicomm Energy 653 and ZTE Blade Qlux 4G, which also have 4G LTE connectivity and comes with better specifications quoted at the similar price.
