Lenovo is all set to announce the next generation of its flagship device dubbed as Vibe X2 during the IFA 2014 Event in Berlin on September 9. But the Chinese manufacturer went ahead and announced an Android tablet marking its IFA journey today. The device is dubbed as Tab S8, it is company’s first Intel-powered tablet, a quad-core Atom Z3745, to be exact.
Company is no stranger for the tablet market as it has launched number of Tabs with Microsoft’s Windows ecosystem comprising Windows 8.0, Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone OS. But this will be company’s first Android tablet featuring a 64-bit Intel CPU, don’t worry about the battery, the chipset comes with a Burst Performance Technology that provides on-demand processing power, thus maintaining the battery juice to last longer than any other Android tablet.
The Tab S8 features an 8-inch Full HD (1920 x1200 pixels resolution) display, resulting in a pixel density of 238 ppi (pixel per inch). On a side comparison note, Samsung’s recently launched 8-inch tablet, the Galaxy 4 Tab 8.0, comes with a 189 ppi while 7.9-inch Apple iPad mini 2 is ahead with 324 ppi.
On the storage front, the Tab S8 will pack a 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage with no word on microSD card slot. The device will be running on Android 4.4 Kitkat out of the box, but with its 64-bit architecture it will probably support Android L version coming later this fall. In the camera department, the device sports an 8MP rear-camera with f/2.2 sensor, whereas at front, the device holds a 1.6 MP shooter taking care of your selfie and video calling needs.
For connectivity, the Tab S8 will come with an optional support of LTE network, which is a courtesy of Intel’s XMMTM 7160 cellular modem. The manufacturer says, the battery will keep ticking tablet for roughly 7 hours, which is decent enough for a tablet with LTE option and Intel’s SoC combined with Android OS.
The interesting part is the pricing of the Tab S8, company notes that the device will be retailing at $199 excluding the taxes and subsidies. That makes this tablet a noteworthy competitor against the other tablets in the market as it will be immediately available via major retailer and Lenovo’s Do Stores offline and online.
