Creating a new hip brand from the parent brand seems to be the new in-thing as now Lenovo too jumps into this one. Lenovo, one of the largest smartphone maker has announced a new smartphone brand dubbed as “Zuk”. Zuk is backed by a group called “360”, the software company in China from Lenovo and Qihoo.
The first smartphone to be launched by ZUK is the ‘ZUK Z1’ and today the company sents out the media invites for August 21 for the official launch of the device. We have seen some innovation coming from the Chinese manufacturers even for Invites for the launch, recently Meizu packed the Nokia 1110 with the invites and ZTE sent the cracked Nokia 1110. Now, the ZUK had sent a little wooden box along with paper with music, when the paper is inserted into that wooden player and rotated, there is a sweet melody played.
Zuk product portfolio includes the likes of innovative gadgets like air fresheners, next generation routers, smart accessories. While Lenovo, after the acquisition of Motorola is known for its pioneer in hardware, company wants to make sure that Zuk is known for software pioneer in smartphones to take on brands like XiaoMi, One Plus etc.
The venture cost of $409 million makes sure that the company has enough cash flows to start off with. Zuk Z1, the new smartphone from Zuk will be coming with Cyanogen Mod OS and not the stock android OS. Also, this flagship device will also be coming with premium features like fingerprint scanner, HD screen and huge battery life.
In collaboration with Cyanogen, ZUK will be entering in other parts of the globe as well apart from China and will be leveraging the strength of Lenovo brand wherever it goes. Here, Lenovo needs to make sure that its keeping itself from an arm’s distance as it may eat over a good amount of market share of Lenovo and Motorola. It will be very challenging for Lenovo to manage 3 smartphone brands like Lenovo itself, Motorola and now Zuk as all of them comes from one single parent brand.
