LG Spectrum Gets Android 2.3.6 Official Update via Verizon

Here comes the news from the Verizon Wireless and they are pleased to announce the a new update to the software version on your LG Spectrum smartphone.

The update is rather disappointing keeping in view this is a high end smartphone and its scheduled for Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update but ICS for Spectrum can take another 2 months easily and until then users need to adjust with Android 2.3.6.

This software update to VS920V6 comes with several improvements and this will bring the new Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread Operating system version which comes with the enhanced security and updated calender.

This update comes with the following enhancements and improvements –

  • EAS password now requires 8 digit password minimum
  • Application launches will not cause the force close errors
  • Improved outline of the calendar view
  • Calendar notification sends notifications at accurate time
  • Successfully sync Optimum Online account using POP3 emails
  • Pinch and zoom added in the camera preview mode for zooming level
  • Sync email and connect to maximum count of 500 emails
  • Browser launches within no time of selection
  • Added ‘Select Search Engine’ option in browser settings
  • Google Search is default search for better experience
  • Google Mobile Services is upgraded to Gingerbread R9
  • Google Play version is V 3.3.12 comes with enhanced user experience
  • Gmail is updated to V 2.3.5.2 and fixes security issues
  • Google Talk is included with video chat capabilities
  • Visual Voice mail has been update for better user experience

There are two ways in which you can apply this update to your LG Spectrum smartphone. This update will take nearly 30 minutes to a maximum of 1 hours depending upon your network connection. The size of this upgrade is around 127 MB. This update is been pushed via OTA notification onto your mobile phone.

There are basically two ways to proceed with this update –

1.OTA User Initiated

OTA User initiated updates are applied when you upgrade your device via manual search To proceed with this kind of upgrade follow the instructions below –

From your home screen you need to tap on the option of Menu Key > Settings > About Phone > Software upgrade and then check for updates.Updates Ready

It will take a little while to find a new software update and the process of the upgrade will begin soon in the background. When the screen appears, you need to tap on Apply Update.Update Ready

Your smartphone will be automatically power down and it will power back on. You will see a screen appearing which shows the task is completed and then Tap on OK.

2. OTA Server Initiated

Once when the new version of software is available on your smartphone, you will get a notification message from your network provider i.e., Verizon Wireless. Just need to click on Download and then it will automatically download in the background. When ready you need to tap on Apply Update.OTA update

The device will power off and power back on a screen will be seen showing the installation has been done.Update Ready

Now to know the software version you need to go to Home Screen then select Menu > Settings and About Phone.
