The Chinese smartphone giant, Xiaomi launched the Xiaomi Redmi 3 smartphone in China with decent specifications like 5-inch HD display, Snapdragon 616 SoC, 4100mAh battery, 13MP Camera with PDAF and premium looks and was also available for a dirt low price $107. Today, a new variant of the impressive Redmi 3 has received the TENAA certification with model number ‘Xiaomi 2015817‘ revealing few upgrades over its predecessor. The new smartphone appears to sport similar design like Redmi 3, but will also include a fingerprint sensor on the back of the unit for superior security.

As per the TENAA listing, the Mi 2015817 will feature a 5-inch (1280×720 pixels) HD TFT display and will come powered by an unknown 1.5GHz octa-core SoC clubbed with 2GB of RAM. We can expect the smartphone to pack a Snapdragon 616 SoC that was also seen on the Redmi 3 smartphone. It features hybrid sim slot that lets you use microSD card instead of the second sim. The smartphone will come with 16GB of built-in storage and also includes a microSD card for further expansion of memory upto 32GB.
The device supports dual sim dual standby and runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box. It will sport a 13MP rear camera with LED flash and a 5MP front-facing camera for video chats and selfie lovers. These are the same set of cameras as seen in the Redmi Note 3. Connectivity options on the device include 4G-LTE, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS/A-GPS, Infrared and microUSB port. The handset is expected to power a slightly smaller 3000mAh battery when compared to the Redmi 3 that backs a massive 4100mAh battery. Its dimensions measure 139.3 x 69.6 x 8.5 mm weighs around 143 grams and is listed in Gold, Silver and Grey color options.
The Xiaomi Redmi 3 with those specifications is already a very popular device, and now the new variant with the added security functions will only add to the success. Although the company officially confirms nothing, as TENAA certifies it we can expect the smartphone to launch in China soon. Stay tuned for more updates in coming days!
