Earlier, we exclusively reported about Xiaomi teasing the entry-level Redmi 3 and the smartphone was also recently certified by TENAA revealing the key specifications of the device. Today, the company has officially announced the Redmi 3 smartphone in China and is priced at mere 699 Yuan ($107/Rs. 7,150) that is the same price at which its predecessor Redmi 2 was released. The smartphone comes with a premium build and also features impressive specifications considering the price tag it carries.
Talking about the specifications, the Redmi 3 flaunts a slightly larger 5-inch (1280×720 pixels) HD display offering 294ppi as pixel density when compared to 4.7-inch display seen on the earlier Redmi devices. Under the hood, it packs Snapdragon 616 64-bit octa-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz paired with Adreno 405 GPU and 2GB of RAM. The device features hybrid sim slot that lets you use microSD card instead of the second sim.
The smartphone comes with 16GB of onboard storage and also includes a microSD card slot for expansion upto 128GB. On the photographic section, the device sports a 13MP rear camera with PDAF for faster focus, f/2.0 aperture, LED flash and a 5MP front snapper with a f/2.2 aperture for video chats and perfect selfie clicks. It supports dual sim dual standby and runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop based latest MiUi 7.1 out of the box.
The handset comes backed by a massive 4100mAh battery and also supports Qualcomm’s Quick Charge technology. It includes standard connectivity options like 4G-LTE, Bluetooth 4.1, Wi-Fi, GPS/A-GPS and microUSB 2.0 port. The dimensions of the handset measure 139.3 x 69.6 x 8.5 mm and weighs 144 grams. The smartphone will come in plain Gold color or with a plaid design on the back with Gold, Silver and Gray color options. The smartphone will first go on sale starting tomorrow, i.e., January 12th. Recently, few press images and a short video of the Xiaomi’s upcoming flagship Mi 5 was leaked online revealing the complete design and color variants of the smartphone. The device will sport 3D-glass back panel and also features an oval-shaped home button that will also double up as a fingerprint scanner. The other rumored specifications of the Mi 5 are 5.2-inch 2K display, Snapdragon 820 quad-core chipset, 3GB/4GB of RAM, 32GB/64GB built-in storage, 16MP main camera, USB Type-C port and will run latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow based MiUi 7.1 out of the box.
