Micromax, Karbonn and Spice have been the three well doing phone and tablet manufacturers in India which have been proving a good competition against the bigger brands like Samsung, Apple which have higher prices and the budget ones aren’t bad either. We’re here going to compare the three 10-inch tablet devices from all these three brands – Micromax Funbook Pro, Karbonn Smart Tab 10 and the Spice Stellar Pad. These are the three tablet devices which are in a price range of around 10k to 13k INR and each of them have the decent specs and features to attract the buyers based on their requirements.

Screen, Display and Form Factor
The Funbook Pro has got a 10.1-inch touchscreen, while the Spice Stellar Pad has got the same size but the Karbonn Smart Tab has got a 9.7-inch touchscreen although that doesn’t make a lot of difference. The screen resolution in both the Karbonn Smart Tab 10 is 1024 x 768 pixels, and in the Micromax Funbook Pro is 1024 x 600 pixels, compared to the better resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels of the Spice Stellar Pad. All the three tablet devices have the multitouch capability, and each of them would support playing the Full HD 1080p videos.
Design wise, the best looking tablet device of these is the Spice Stellar Pad, and the touch response tested on all of them, showed pretty similar results with the multitouch working good and the same on them.
Processor, RAM and Storage
The processor in the Micromax Funbook the 1.2 GHz Cortex-A8 processor, while that in the Karbonn Smart Tab 10 is the 1.5 GHz Cortex A9 Dual Core Processor, and the Spice Stellar Pad too has a 1.5GHz Dual Core processor within itself, and the Stellar Pad even has a Quad-core GPU for putting out good graphics on the large screen.
To support the functionality and multitasking, the RAM included in all the three tablet devices is a 1GB DDR3 RAM. While the storage in the Spice Stellar Pad is already higher than the other two, with the 16GB internal storage which can be expanded to 64GB using the MicroSD card, the Funbook and Smart Tab have got 8GB internally, expansion possible to a maximum of 32GB.
Operating System, Connectivity
The operating system versions that come out-of-the-box in these tablet devices are as follows:
- Micromax Funbook Pro – Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich
- Karbonn Smart Tab 10 – Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean
- Spice Stellar Pad – Android 4.1 Jelly Bean
The Jelly Bean OS version has been out for the Funbook Pro but that would always be a hassle when you purchase and see the updates that have to be done by the user.
Connectivity wise, the Stellar Pad and the Smart Tab 10 have got the Wi-Fi b/g/n standard, while the Funbook Pro has got the 802.11 b/g and the other standard connectivity options are the same and all the three tablet devices have no SIM card option, while can still connect to the data network using the USB dongles. Apart from that, the Bluetooth, GPS are all the standard available functions in all of these.
Camera
Here, the Funbook Pro misses a camera with no rear camera available and the front one is a VGA quality camera, and this is a major disadvantage for those who take the tablet outdoors and would need it to be used as a basic camera device at some instances. Both the tablets from Karbonn and Spice have got the VGA cameras in them on the front side, while the rear camera in the Spice one is a neat 3-megapixel one while the one in Karbonn is a 2-megapixel camera though on testing there was no much difference in the captured picture quality.
Battery
The battery capacity in the three tablet devices is as follows:
- Micromax Funbook Pro – 5600 mAh
- Karbonn Smart Tab 10 – 6000 mAh
- Spice Stellar Pad – 7600 mAh
The spice stellar pad is a clear winner here with a better battery and it does provide a long time of usage on a single charge, and while the other two have got a similar battery capacity, the Karbonn Smart Tab 10 seems to provide a better backup because of the simpler interface and in the end, it totally depends on the activities being carried out in the tablet.
Pricing
The pricing of the Micromax and Karboon tablets is the same at Rs. 9999, but the Spice Stellar Pad is priced at Rs. 12999.
Overall Comparison – Which tablet device is the best?
Based on the pricing, it’s the Karbonn Smart Tab 10 which would take away the title, because of the better specs than the Micromax tablet and lesser price than the Spice one, but when the overall specs are compared, it is the Spice Stellar Pad which is a clear winner with the better display, a lot better battery and specs wise a good camera, and one wouldn’t think much before spending Rs. 3k more than what they would pay to buy one of the other two tablet devices.
Given that these are from the different makers, they still have got a similar build and the similar connectivity options, and are having a similar standard Android interface for tablet devices, these cannot be compared with the devices from the brands that have the prices around the double of these.
