SMS – Use SMS Backup & Restore app
Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application
Call Log – Call Log and Restore
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card

  • APN and MMS settings are responsible to access the internet and MMS services, so you need to copy those settings from this path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names
  • Make sure that your phone’s battery has a charging of more than 90% so that the process ends up in a smooth manner.

Now before proceeding for the flashing of your phone with the latest CyanogenMod 7.1.0 version your phone should be rooted. So, make sure you have rooted the phone or else root it now by following this link and continue. Remember the point that rooting voids the warranty of the phone.

  • In order to install the bootmenu you need to have ADB on your computer. To get a better idea on ADB, just check the CyanogenMod forum and get ADB on your computer.
  • Now download the latest version of bootmenu.
  • Now unzip the downloaded package into the bootmenu folder and move this folder to the root of the SD card.
  • Using the USB cable, connect your Motorola Defy to the computer.
  • Now, open the terminal on the computer and run the below commands.

adb shell
su
cp –R /sdcard/bootmenu /data/bootmenu
cd /data/bootmenu
chmod 755 *
