The Axon 7 by ZTE which was launched earlier this year now can be unlocked to root the device. The Axon series which commenced last year is doing well in the market and also competes with many other flagships. According to ZTE’s blog post, Peter Shih, a moderator of the ZTE community forum, had said earlier in a live webinar that ZTE was working hard to unlock the Axon 7’s bootloader. That announcement made ZTE’s fan more excited who were planning to buy the device.
But after receiving the devices, when many users found that it doesn’t support bootloader unlocking, they were very disappointed, and they contacted the ZTE’s Customer Service Department and asked when they would be getting the option to unlock the bootloader. In reply, the customer care representatives said the company had no intention to avail that option to users, which was contradictory to Peter’s statement he made earlier.
But after 2-3 days, Shih broke the ice and said customer service representatives were wrong. And clarified that they had been planning to announce it in the next week, and he also stated that they had been working hard for several months to make it happen. So finally today, ZTE announced that the US versions of Axon 7 and Axon 7 Pro would support bootloader unlocking by requesting through a form which is available at the same announcement page here. But you should make a note of this disclaimer if you are unaware of it, that unlocking a device’s bootloader voids the warranty service which is same with all the companies. And in this case, you would lose the Passport 2.0 warranty if you are planning to unlock the bootloader. And the company wants to make sure the users understand this before they unlock the bootloader. And by requesting the form for the same conveys that you understand the risk and consequences that come with it. As per the announcement you should be getting the instructions to unlock the bootloader in 72 hours. So it seems like ZTE made this option available because of the cancellation of many pre-order for the Axon 7. What do you think? And if you own a U.S. version of Axon 7 or Pro somehow, and live outside of US, then this news should make you very excited today!
