Official – Nougat update brings multi-window, Daydream to Nexus Devices

Google has finally started rolling out Android 7.0 Nougat update to Nexus devices. In an official statement on Android blog, Google mentioned that there are more than 250 major features with the new update including multi-window andDaydream support. Nexus users will receive the update (OTA) over the air. With this update, Google brought its mobile virtual reality platform ‘Daydream’ to mobile devices. And it will be launched later this year. Talking about more features, it comes with a Quick switch, Expanded Emoji, Quick setting controls, multi-local support. There are more than 1500 expanded emoji which include 72 new ones. And the best feature, Android users can officially run two apps simultaneously by dragging and resizing apps. Quick switch feature lets you switch between two most used apps by just double tapping the overview button. Android & Google Play’s vice president of product management Sameer Samat said,” we asked thousands of fans and developers all over the world, resulting in lots of great ideas and implemented them in new OS. It has the support of VulkanTM- next generation graphics so that games works really good. Google also added some security features like seamless updates, file-based encryption and direct boot. Google also took care of people using Android devices at work. The seamless update will let the user download and install the update in the background, plus app optimisation for the new version. Direct boot let the device start faster than before.

Nougat

No Nougat for Nexus 7

Devices getting Nougat update includes Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus 9, Nexus player, Pixel C and Android One(with 4G) devices. But the list does not include Nexus 7. Although blog mentioned that any device enrolled in Android beta program would also get the update. It is expected that other devices will start getting this update later this year or maybe next year.
