Oppo has been in the leaks for a while now about the launch of its flagship camera-centric Oppo R9 and Oppo R9 Plus smartphones. The smartphones were also recently certified by TENAA that gave us the glimpse of upcoming devices. As teased earlier, today the company has officially launched the Oppo R9 and R9 Plus at an event held in China. Both the smartphones look similar in design and runs on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop based latest Color OS 3.0 out of the box. The Oppo R9 is priced at 2,799 Yuan (approx $430 / Rs. 28,750) and is will be available via Oppo’s official website starting March 24th while the Oppo R9 Plus costs 3299 Yuan (approx $507 / Rs. 33,900) and will go on sale starting April 12th.

Coming to the specifications part, the Oppo R9 flaunts a 5.5-inch (1080×1920 pixels) full-HD display with 403ppi as pixel density and Corning Gorilla Glass 4 laid on top of it for protection. On the other hand, the R9 Plus features a 6-inch (1080×1920 pixels) full-HD display and offers a pixel density of 386ppi. Under the hood, the Oppo R9 comes powered by MediaTek MT6755 Helio P10 octa-core processor clocked at 1.8Hz clubbed with Mali-T860 GPU while the R9 Plus packs a Snapdragon 652 octa-core processor clocked at 2.0GHz paired with Adreno 510 GPU. The smartphones have 4GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage and also includes a microSD card slot for further expansion of memory.
The main USP of the smartphones is its camera, Both the devices sport a 16MP Sony IMX298 rear camera with LED flash and a 16MP front-facing camera with beauty 4.0, f/2.0 aperture to capture stunning selfie images. The smartphones come with standard connectivity options like 4G+, VoLTE, GPS, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and microUSB 2.0 port. The smartphones feature an all-metal unibody design and also features a physical home button that double’s up as a fingerprint sensor for unlocking the device in just 0.2 seconds.
The Oppo R9 comes backed by a 2850mAh battery that the company claims can last upto 31 hours of talk time and upto 250 hours of standby time. On the other hand, the R9 Plus powers a large 4120mAh battery that has the energy to last upto 41 hours of talk time and upto 360 hours of standby time. Both the smartphone VOOC flash charging technology that offers 2 hours of talk time with just 5 minutes of charge. The R9 measures just 6.6 mm thickness and weighs 145 grams while the R9 Plus with a bigger battery is slightly thicker measuring 7.4 mm thickness and weighs 185 grams. The smartphone will be available in Gold and Rose Gold color options.
