Qualcomm took to Twitter to tease a new Snapdragon 800 powered smartphone that will be showcased at the upcoming CES 2015 in Las Vegas. It is believed Qualcomm is hinting at the successor to LG’s G Flex smartphone – rumoured as the G Flex 2.
While the tweet reads, “A new #Snapdragon 800 powered smartphone is launching next week at @intlCES – here’s a first look”, the image along with it hints towards the successor of the LG G Flex as it features similar back buttons and the distinctive self-healing polycarbonate patterned back of the original.
The successor of the LG G Flex is not expected to feature the latest top-end SoC. With the first-generation, flexible display smartphone featuring a slightly dated processor (Snapdragon 800 MSM8974) at launch presumably due to design limitations. This may change however as LG has had some time to refine its technology. It’s said that the G Flex 2 will be smaller than the original model, which sports a 6-inch display, though it should still have a curvy design, flexible display, and a self-healing back cover.
Qualcomm is reportedly testing its much talked-about Snapdragon 810processor with the new Cat. 9 LTE modem support. According to reports, the new modem supports Category 9 Carrier Aggregation and peaks download speeds of up to 450 Mbps over three 20MHz LTE carrier. The processor is expected to make debut in several flagship devices during 2015, a number of which might be showcased at the upcoming CES 2015 event in Las Vegas.
