How to Root & Install Custom TWRP Recovery Image in Galaxy Note 5 – Guide

The premier phablet from Samsung, the Note 5 can now be rooted and installed with the custom recovery image. Once your phone is rooted, you can then install the custom rom firmwares along with apps which needs root access. So let’s check out on what are the quick pre requisites which you need to follow before heading to the detailed guide which will help you root the device.

Pre Requisites:

• Create a backup of all the data present in your Samsung Galaxy Note Edge using below-mentioned steps;

SMS – Download SMS Backup & Restore app and create the backup. Once done, transfer the backup file to your computer,

Call Log – Download Call log Backup & Restore app and create the backup. Once done, transfer the backup file to your computer,

Local Files – Transfer all the data like photos, downloads, music files, videos etc. to your computer.

• Battery level in your Galaxy Note Edge should be 50%+ or else device may get turned Off in the midst of firmware update,

• Make sure that all the required drivers are installed in your computer. Navigate to Settings> Developer Options> check the USB Debugging option.

Procedure to Root Galaxy Note 5:

Download the corresponding Kernel images, TWRP recovery image below along with Odin in your computer.

• Noble Kernel (N920T)
• Noble Kernel (N920P)
• TWRP 2.8.7.1 Image (for both N920T/N920P)

Extract the Noble kernel zip file and extract the same.

Turn off your Note 5 so that it can be entered in the download mode. Download Mode in Galaxy Note 5 can be entered by pressing the pressing Volume Down + Home button and then the power button to turn ON the device in the Download Mode.

Open Odin in your computer and connect your phone to computer using original USB cable.

Click on “AP” in Odin and select the tar.md5 file which you have got after extracting the noble kernel for your Note 5.

Click on “Start” to start the process of installation. This will flash the Noble kernel in your Note 5. From Google Play Store you need to now download SuperSU app. Now, disconnect the device and re-connect the phone to computer in the Download Mode. Close and Open Odin in your computer.

Extract the downloaded TWRP recovery image in your computer to get the .tar file.

In Odin, click on “AP” and choose the TWRP recovery image tar file which ends with tar.md5 and click on “Start” to begin the installation f TWRP image.
