How to Root Nexus 4 on Lollipop 5.0 Android OS – Guide

For all those users who have updated their Nexus 4 Android smartphones with the Lollipop 5.0 Android OS can now root their devices. All thanks to the CF-Root team for coming out with the direct procedure which will help you root the device. Once rooted, you can then install the custom ROM firmwares along with the apps which needs root access. While Android Lollipop 5.0 is a major leap when it comes to the overall visual language of android, there will be many custom ROM firmwares which will further enhance the user experience and also will make use of the 5000+ new APIs which are also packed in 5.0 OS.

So let’s check out on what are the pre requisites after which we will head over to the detailed guide which will help you root the device.

Pre Requisites:

  • Backup all your data with the help of below mentioned steps and manually. Don’t use any automated tools for backing the data as it won’t help you restore the data.

SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log – Call Log and Restore
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names

  • Make sure that your device has 50% battery life and enable USB Debugging Mode which can be enabled from the Settings.
  • Download and install Nexus 4 drivers in your computer as it will help you connect your device to the computer.

Procedure to Root Nexus 4 on Lollipop Android 5.0 OS:

  • Download the Nexus 4 CF Root file from here to your computer. Once downloaded, you need to extract the same as mentioned below.

  • Turn off your Nexus 4 Android smartphone so that it can be entered in the boot loader mode. Press Volume Down + Volume Up and then press the power button to enter the device in the boot loader mode.
  • Connect your Nexus 4 to the computer with the help of original USB cable and double click on the root-windows.bat file and follow the on screen instructions as mentioned below.

  • It will take around 3 -4 minutes for rooting the device and once rooted the device will reboot.
  • Download the “Root Checker” app from the Google PLAY Store to check on whether the device is rooted or not. If the device is not rooted, you need to repeat the above procedure.

Note: If your Nexus 4 gets into the bootloop mode, you need to long press the power button to turn off and then restart the device to follow the instructions got rooting the device again.
