{One Click} How to Root Nexus 6 Android Device on Lollipop 5.0 OS – Guide

It’s time to add more juice to your Nexus 6 Android device as you can now root your device to make the most out of it. Once rooted you can also install the custom ROM firmwares along with the apps which needs root access. It was just recently bought into the light that Nexus 6 also have got the hidden notification light which can be enabled once the device is rooted with the help of Light Flow app. So let’s check out in detail on how you can root your Nexus 6 Android device after checking out the quick list of pre requisites mentioned below.

Quick Pre Requisites:

  • Create a backup of all the data present in your device manually with the help of below mentioned steps and not with the KIES or any other tools.

SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log – Call Log and Restore
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names

  • Make sure that your device has 50% battery life and enable USB Debugging Mode which can be enabled from the Settings.

Procedure to Root Nexus 6 Android smart device:

  • Turn off the Nexus 6 Android smart device so that it can be entered in the fastboot mode.  Press and hold the Volume Down and power button to boot the device in the boot loader/ fast boot mode
  • Assuming that you have unzipped the CF-Auto-Root-shamu-shamu-nexus6.zip file which you got after downloading the zip file in the initial step. Connect your Nexus 6 to the computer with the help of original USB cable in the bootloader mode.
  • In Windows system, you need to double click on root-windows.bat file which will be there in the unzipped folder. In Linux, you need to launch the terminal and head over to the location where you have extracted the CF Root contents and enter the below mentioned commands;

For Mac: “./root-mac.sh”

For Linux: “./root-linux.sh”

  • Download the “Root Checker” app from Google PLAY Store to check on whether the device is rooted or not. If your device is not rooted, you will have to re follow the list of instructions mentioned above.
  • Whole process of rooting will take around 3 -4 minutes and in some cases it may take even longer time than expected. Make sure that you are not disconnecting the device from computer unless and until the device reboot after rooting is done.

Note: if your Nexus 6 goes in the boot loop mode, you need to press the Volume Up + Power ON the device in the Off state to clear the cache and reboot the device.
