Tutorial to Root Galaxy S on XWJW1 Firmware:
- First up you need to download the Rooting Package in your computer and extract the same. For your convenience there is NO PASSWORD for this zip file.
- After extraction, match all the files from the above mentioned screen capture. Once you are done with this, you will now have to open the Odin in your computer and turn off your phone so that the device can be entered in the download mode.
- Download mode can be entered by pressing Volume Down Key + OK button, and holding both simultaneously press the Power Button.
- Once the device enters into download mode, connect the phone to the Odin after which you will see that the ID : COM section in odin will turn Yellow which will mean that all the drivers are installed successfully and you are ready to proceed to the next step.
Note: If ID : COM doesn’t turn yellow then install Samsung USB Drivers, .net framework and also you need to update the KIES with the latest version so that the missing drivers are installed.
- Now, click on “PDA” to select “zImage” and click on “Start” to start the process of rooting process. As soon as the process is completed, you will see that the device will be rebooted.
- Once the device gets rebooted, you need to remove the connected USB cable and then close the Odin in your PC. Now, you need to enable the USB Debugging in your phone. Enable the USB Debugging Mode in your phone from the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging”, tick the option.
- Now, connect the device to the computer and open the file called “RUNME” from the extracted files. Now, once the process is completed the terminal window will be disappeared.
- Once its done, you need to copy the Superuser.apk file in your phone and install the same by opening it in your phone.
- After this you need to turn Off your Phone to enter the device in the recovery mode. The recovery mode can be entered by pressing Volume UP Key + OK button, and holding both simultaneously press the Power Button. In the recovery mode, select Wipe data/factory reset and also you need to select Wipe Cache partition and then reboot your device by selecting reboot system now with the help of Volume rocker keys.
Tip: If the device takes very long time on the “S” logo then pull off the battery, reinsert and repeat the whole process again. It’s normal if a Green Robot is being shown at the start up as it may show for some users.
Now, from the Android Market Place, you need to download and install the “ROM Manager” tool in your phone. Once it’s installed, you need to open the app and select “Flash Clock Work Mod Recovery” option to install the recovery.
