How to Root SONY Xperia ARC on Latest ICS 4.0.4 Firmware – Tutorial

This rooting tutorial will rope in a huge respite for all those who wished to install the custom recovery images, custom firmwares and also the apps which need the root access. As of now the ICS hasn’t arrived across all the countries but as in when it arrives, this is the procedure one has to follow so as to root the device. This procedure should only be applied to the devices which are having the model name as SONY Xperia ARC and to no other devices.

Note: This article will be of help to only devices which are on the latest ICS Android 4.0.4 firmware release. To check the same on whether your device is on the latest firmware or not, the same can be checked from the path “Settings > About Phone”

Express Pre Requisites:

  • First and foremost ensure that your device is left with the minimum of 60% so that it doesn’t get turned Off in the middle of firmware update. Disable all the antivirus apps present in your phone as these tools interrupt the process of rooting.
  • Go to settings > Security > Mark “Unknown sources” and ensure that its ticked. Up next enable the USB Debugging from the path “Settings > Developer options > Mark USB debugging” and also you need to enable the MSC Mode from the path “Settings > Xperia > connectivity > USB connection mode > select MSC mode”.
  • Back up all the data present in your SONY Xperia ARC so as to ensure that the data doesn’t get lost or corrupted. Just in case if the data gets corrupted or deleted

SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log –Call Log and Restore
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names
