Procedure to Update Android 4.0.3 Firmware in Samsung Captivate i896:
- Assuming that you have already rooted your device, you now need to download ICS Android 4.0.3 Firmware RC 2.1 in your computer and copy the same to your phone memory. Please note that you should not place the file deep into the folders as it will not be recognizing the file in further steps.
- After placing the file, turn off the phone so as to enter the device into the recovery mode. The recovery mode can be entered by “Pressing Volume Up key+ Menu Key + Power ON the device”. Once you enter into the recovery mode, you need to select “Wipe data/factory reset” & “Wipe Cache partition” so that this will clear the cache which is there in your device.
- In recovery mode, select “install zip from sd card” > “choose zip from sd card” after which select the ICS Android 4.0.3 ROM Zip file after which the process of update will be started.
- Once the firmware is updated successfully, you now need to select “++++ Go Back ++++” and select “reboot system now” which will restart the Galaxy Captivate I896 Phone.
Note: The device may take longer than expected time to boot the device and to show up the home screen as it’s the first reboot after the firmware update. Just in case if the device gets into the reboot loop mode then you need to re insert he battery and follow the whole procedure from start.
