Samsung Galaxy S GT I9000 – Steps to install ICS Android 4.0 Build 17 Firmware

Procedure to Update Galaxy S with Build 17 ICS Android 4.0 Firmware:

  • The current firmware in your device should be XXJVU and should be rooted. If you are not on the rooted XXJVU Firmware, you can update and root the same from the below mentioned steps.

  • Download Build 17 Firmware Package, Google Apps, and Google Apps Fixer Package from here to your computer. Once you have downloaded all of them, connect the phone to the computer with the help of USB cable and copy all the files in your device’s SD Card.
  • Now, remove the connected USB cable and turn Off the device so as to enter the phone in the recovery mode. The recovery mode can be entered by “Pressing Volume Up key+ Menu Key + Power ON the device”. Once you enter into the recovery mode, you need to select “Wipe data/factory reset” & “Wipe Cache partition” so that this will clear the cache which is there in your device.

  • Select “install zip from sd card” > “choose zip from sd card” > Build 17 Firmware Package, Google Apps and Google Apps Fixer Package one after another in the same chronological order.
  • As soon as the firmware is updated, either the phone will be restarted or will land up in the recovery mode screen. If you see the recovery mode screen, select “++++ Go Back ++++” and then choose the option of “Reboot system now” by pressing the Power button.

  • Once you see the home screen, turn Off the same and re insert the battery. Now boot your device in the recovery mode again. In recovery mode select “Wipe data/factory reset” & “Wipe Cache partition” so that this will clear the cache after which select “++++ Go Back ++++” and select “reboot system now” which will restart the Galaxy S.

Note: In an unfortunate event if the process is interrupted then you will have to repeat the whole procedure from the start so as to again successfully update the phone.
